"4 of 10 on sub-laptop specs"
Pros: Design has potential
Cons: Potential is unrealized
Summary: 1 ) technical specs are mediocre ...even measured against latest lap-tops
2 ) Why not have all USB/Firewire...etc ports in the base ? Who wants wires hanging from the back ..or, worse, from the side of the screen ... ( For SD/Express Cards this [side of screen placement is not an issue )
3 ) Height can not be raised or lowered ( place it on top of a pile of books ? ) .... tilts, but doe not swivel .....
4 ) The Blue - Ray rewritable is a nice interim solution .... but we the consumers should be driving the market to SD format cards ( with multi-terabyte capacity ) .... ridding the market of these rotating monstrosities ..... Think how much design real-estate could be gained in desktops and notebooks ... not to mention increased durability ....... ???!!!
What were the design engineers thinking ?

XPS One w Blue Ray
1 ) first XPS One computer - software defective ( various explanations from technicians ). Returned.
2 ) second XPS One computer - same software defect as the first. The LCD screen had a six inch long micro-scratch. Returned.
3 ) This XPS One Computer. Same software defect as the first two ( had been assured by the order agent that the software problem had been fixed( fraudulent assurance ). Shortly after the unit was received, it went "dark". A Dell technician came to repair it. He had never worked on this type unit. He spent two hours ( unprofessional, kibitzin, watching television ). After the repair, the unit is still defective. Pending return or Lawsuit against Dell.
4 ) fourth Dell XPS One - same software defect as the other three units. Hardware defect: after several months ( although, not being used ), the LCD screen developed extensive veritcal white banding. Pending return or Lawsuit against Dell.

NOTES:
1 ) although I've had various explanaitons from Dell technicians, it seems that the problem may involve the fact that Microsoft did not support Blue Ra in Windows ita ( althoughSevice ack 2 is supposed support B). Dell instaled Roxio t deal with the issue and it may be that the version of Roxio that Dell instaled created a conflict ( blocking autoplay/autorun from running normally).
2 ) I have wrriten a number of times to the Dell General Counsel trying to resolve the problem, but Dell seems to believe the company has no obligation to ship products free of defects known to the company prior to shipment.
