"Macbook Pro ROCKZ AZZ!!!"
Pros: Weight, Sleek cool design, Illuminated Keys, Mag safe cord, Nice Bright Screen, oh and did I mention it's a mac running on intel?
Cons: not awhole lot of APPS available for it.
Summary: The last time I have ever used a Mac was in High School playing the old school Sim City, and that was that. I've always been on a PC eversince. I am an artist using Photoshop, Painter, and some occasional Premiere who loves to travel alot, so naturally I was really excited when I heard about the Macbook Pro. The Specs are just to good to be true. Anyhow enough of the specs, I'm sure you know them already. Instead let me give you guys my experience as a first time MACBOOK PRO user.
The Screen:
I come from a techy family (everybody has a laptop or some sort of LCD device with them) and I have to say the Macbook Pro has the brightess, most crisp screen I have ever seen on a portable device. I love the ambient light sensor...the screen dims automatically when your in a dark room, reducing eye strain.
Keyboard:
The Keyboard is a good size, the sensitivity on them feels just right. I also like the lighted keys (which I believe has been available since the Powerbook days). I just wish the arrow tabs were a bit bigger.
Touchpad:
Man..real estate is the word for this thing. anymore bigger and I can use my wacom pen. The double finger scrolling is just a blessing, I can't see myself opreating a touchpad without this feature...ever. The factory setting for the touchpad sensitivity is just perfect for me, not to slow not to fast. No complains in this department.
The MAG SAFE CORD. I really can't say much about this since I haven't had any real life cord trip accident, I just hope it works when that time comes.
OS X:
The heart and soul of a mac, this is the reason why I switch to a MAC...the OS X. This operating system is just handsdown the best, most user friendly I have ever seen. Sharing files, networking, Print sharing, etc, has never been this easy. iLife just fits my digital lifestyle, from movies, to Pictures, to Front frow. It's almost been two weeks since I got this and I have to say, this is one stable Operating System. My brother got his Sony with Windows media center at about the same time as me and he has had several encounter with the blue screen of death already. I haven't encountered any froozen program or sudden crashes...and I hope I don't in the future. If you are a G5 user, and realy heavily on APPs like Photoshop, Final Cut, etc. then I'd say hold of till those programs are running native on the MAC/INTEL sytems.
The Juice:
On average my battery usually last two and half hours with screen brightness set to 4 bars and itunes running. Not bad for relaxing in the backyard, coffee house or doing stuff on the road.
The Hardware:
I really don't know what the advantage of having an Intel core duo is (number wise), but I do know it's fast. loading iPhoto and iTunes is just a full if not a half a bounce away. Loading the OS. is fast too! you say Macbook Pro three times and bam! it's there. I rarely see the spinning rainbow cursor. I guess opting for the 7200rpm Harddrive helps with the loading speed too. The 256 Video memory is a real thrill for a digital artist like myself. The built in webcam is a nice touch, specially if your always on the road and would like to communicate with love ones. The Mini Control is pretty cool too, a good pair with FRONT ROW and showing stuff to clients.
Overall, my switch to MAC (Specially with the Macbook Pro) has been a pleasant one. Apple making their own software and hardware means better compatibility and less down time. It works the way it's suppose to, you get what you pay for...Period!.
