    "This computer is unbelievable!"

by midimykeys on March 20, 2007

Pros: 2 ultra-fast processors, tons of memory, sleek attractive look and feel, doesn't burn my lap like my last laptop, awesome vista o/s

Cons: had to exchange computer because of noisy keypad

Summary: The feature that stands out to me the most is the core 2 duo processor. Actually, there are two processors working with eachother to expidite any program demand with ultra-fast accuracy. I shopped many laptops, and could not find one with as much memory, let alone a 160g hard drive. The memory, an astounding 2048k, (or 2gb) is perfect for the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. This o/s needs a lot of memory. 1gb or 1024k is recommended, so this laptop is the best I could find at the $1,000 range. The o/s is kept in the flash memory, so it's there waiting and ready on startup. This computer has a fan on the left side, and keeps fairly cool compared to others I've owned or used. What else, 4 usb ports on right side, nice multimedia functions integrated into keyboard, and an amazing Vista operating system. Everything is seamless and lightning fast. I thought about upgrading to the Vista Ultimate o/s (this system could definitely handle it). The battery is amazing. When turning off the display lights and adjusting the screen brightness to 1/2, I get around 5-6 hours out of the battery. This computer is definitely a Gateway winner. Have fun with your new laptop!

If you have any intention of using it to record any kind of audio, this computer is NOT FOR YOU. Gateway customer support absolutely stinks. They do not help you. They said there was nothing wrong with my computer, and to pay for "technical support" which was how they identified themselves when answering my call. A lot changed in vista, which is natural, but there are not the sound options that there use to be in XP, or in fact every other operating system I've ever had. (This is only the GATEWAY NOTEBOOKS) Desktops have these sound options. I can not update any drivers, and waited too long to take my computer out of the box, so now I can't return it. SigmaTel, the company whose soundcard is in this computer, provides no support. Microsoft provides no support, well they do, for $. Anyway, I would recommend a Toshiba, Sony, heck even an HP over this computer if you care anything about sound.
