"This thing ROCKS!"
Pros: Awesome picture. Intuitive menus. Easy hook up.
Cons: Sound isn't at same quality level as picture
Summary: We purchased the KDL-46W3000 on Christmas Eve, and have been using it for a couple of weeks now. It is truly an awesome TV. We couldn't be happier. I stayed within the LCD ballpark, researching the top makes suggested by this and other sites. As I researched, this TV began to emerge as the one. I went to several video stores, and viewed this TV next to others. It was by far superior to its peers. In one store, it sat next to the top-o-the-line Sony Bravia XBR4 series. Though the XBR did have a slightly better picture, the additional thousand dollars did not justify the slight improvement. I also compared this TV in the real world to Samsungs, Panasonics and Sharps. It was better in picture to all three, some more, some less, but still better. We bought the TV and brought it home. Connecting it to our satellite box and home theater was a snap, and setting the thing up via the menus was intuitive and simple. The whole process, including unpacking the TV, took less than 1 hour. The TV's enclosure has a brushed metal bezel which adds elegance to its appearance (this TV does not have the glass bezel like the XBR series). In general the picture is truly amazing. On rare occassions, when there is a great deal of flashing, snapping motion (ads and previews of TV shows) you can detect a slight juddering, but you really have to watch for it. For regular sports where action may be fast, but smooth, such as people in motion, there is no discernable judder. This TV does NOT have the 120Hz refresh, but for my eye, it doesn't need it. The only small disappointment is the sound. It seems a bit muddy when using the integrated speakers along the bottom of the bezel. Connection to a home theater (which you really, really should have with a TV like this) takes care of that problem.
While engineers may find fault with LCDs when they challenge them with test patterns and other hair-splitting tests, I can tell you, as someone who is easily disappointed with over-promised performance, this TV is wonderful. If you're careful, you can find it in the sub 2K range these days. It is worth every penny, and then some. Go get yourself one of these. You will be very pleased!
