"Loud, Loud, Loud, Loud "equals" LEMON, LEMON, LEMON........................ ...................."
Pros: Not so bad on the price, with monitor.
Cons: LOUD, CD/DVD Drives lock up when installing programs with multiple CD's.
Summary: I have not seen a computer this loud since 1988. Don't ge me wrong, the fans are quite, but what I believe to be the hard drive sounds like a geiger counter when processing commands, opening programs, etc...
Also, whenever I try to install a program with multiple CD's after asking for CD 2 the unit locks up and will not continue. The DVD / CD drive are so loud when in use it sounds like they are going to fly out of the case.
Then there is customer support.... **** poor. Want to send me a "blank" hard drive and have me spend my time reinstalling everything...
Have been a good Dell customer over the years and as I own a small business buy quite frequently. NOT ANYMORE....

Obviously the drive you received is bad, as I can not even hear mine. I will agree their support really seems to have slipped in recent years, but I have had overall good experience with support. I also have a 6000 laptop that needed a new keyboard, and through chat set up the RMA ship/return at no cost to me (under warranty).
You may want to remove some of the software included. In my review, I mentioned Corel as doing some "funky" things with drag and drop. Another person where I work has an XPS 600 and had problems with the same Corel software trying to "grab" CD's when inserted into the drive. I can't say this will solve you're problem, but I did want to relay the information.
Hoping everything works out...
Tom
