    "Looks like a baby toy!"

    by cjoe42 on June 20, 2006

Pros: You'll always be able to find Creative players at a discount

Cons: Poor control interface; hit with an ugly stick

Summary: Creative doesn't seem to be able to figure out why they can't sell more players than Apple does. For one thing, their players aren't very good looking, especially when you see them in person. Don't get me wrong. Creative players have plenty of features that, although useless for most people, makes you feel good because you know that you have more features than those iPod lovers have on their players. I mean, I think it would be great to record my voice so I know what I sound like. But when it comes to consumer electronics devices that are used for pleasure and entertainment, looks count for almost as much as extra unnecessary features. If Creative would maybe spend a little more money in industrial design and less in releasing ten new versions every month, maybe they could create a winner. This player looks like a Fisher Price toy and would make people think that I ripped it off from a baby. Also, most consumers like an easy to use interface. The joystick on this player doesn't look like it is easy or fun to use. With the iPods well integrated product line, there is a uniform interface design scheme. But with Creative players, you seem to get a different interface method on every player. This is clearly a company that is trying to throw out as many different players on the market as possible in hopes of a winner. The third problem with Creative is that they are so consumed with beating Apple, that they ignore the other worthy and well established competitors that are looking to steal some easy market share from a company like Creative, a company that doesn't appear to have a good eye on the Sonys and Samusungs of the world. If you checked Creatives quarterly financial reports lately, thinks ain't looking so good, so if they don't get focused and serious about developing a real market contender, they will be going down the road of the Dell DJ and the Rio. If you have interest in supporting the under dog and buying a player like this, you might as well wait until they hit the bargin bins at Costco.

Dude, why'd you even buy this player then? If your profile is correct in saying you own it. Why didn't you buy a Nano?

When I saw the Zen Vision: M in pictures online, I thought it looked pretty cheap. However, when I got it in my hands, I found out that it's a gorgeous device. That's how it is with most Creative players.

Second of all, why are you destroying a device's rating by complaining about Creative on this review board? This kind of ranting goes on a forum. You haven't even used (or seen) the device, so don't review it.

I remembered when the ZVM came out, everbody was screaming how "toyish" it was. When you actually see it in person, it was actually a very nice looking device.

Stop judging players based on their photos. Wait to see it first-hand before reviewing you judgmental pricks!

henry is completly true in mentioning about the creative's design and the advertisment of apple.
apple hypes the ipod way way to much from wacky siliouette people dancing to having celebrities show off their ipods that where probably payed to show them off AND keeping big secrets that may not be so great(remember apples last annoncment of 'fun stuff' so that the press goes "oww man oww man apple is going to show something new and hip. lets overhype apple stuff now and get everyone else excited".

Also do we ever see a Creative commercial on TV or anywhere very public?

Come on, people! please stop bashing Creative MP3 players.
Creative made some of the very first MP3 players in the world and they all sound really great! The design of the Zen V is based on the Zen Vision:M and I see nothing wrong with that.
They didn't put the vertical touch pad on the Zen V just simply because it is already very very small and if there's a touch pad on it, there won't be enough place to slide the fingers up and down to control, so, in this case, the five way joystick is a better design.
Creative doesn't sell as many MP3 players as Apple does just because they don't do the marketing, advertising well enough, not because of the design of their MP3 players.

hmm.... i love the poor guys that write reviews out of pure jealousy. they realize that creative puts out the best products but they can't give up their old ways. i'm not saying this player is the best(2 gigs is way to small for a video player) but to say that all creative products are not good is again... jealousy. just about every player ipod puts out creative tops it with its own. now im not saying ipod is bad.. personally i like them also, but there are better players out there. To say also that creatives excellent extra features that ipod users only dream about are useless... again... jealousy. sorry buddy your review is pathetic

This thing looks hideous compare to all the other competition gunning for the iPod. Fishere Price indeed.

Creative seems to be comfortable staying in the distance second or third spot. That's my only explanation for introducing players that looks ugly and very uncool with the bright colors. Aand why must all their players be thick. You add a case and now it's extra thick!
