"Best PDA for me Right Now"
Pros: copy and paste wouldn't work ... see below
Cons: copy and paste wouldn't work ... see below
Summary: Cons ...
(1). The ALARM CLOCK is very upsetting with lots of problems. (sorry, I'm going to beat this in the ground a bit ... this is my biggest pet peeve for this phone ... there was no thought for making this a usable feature, just barely fits as a feature at all )
- you must press THE CORRECT OUTSIDE BUTTON or else you'll turn it off.
- snooze defaults to 5 minutes ... and EVERY TIME, whether reset or not.
first of all, setting a snooze length requires one to navigate thru MENUs DURING
alarm clock use, and is only good for one time, hitting the snooze button later will
cause the phone to retreat right back to the same default length of 5 minutes.
- no separate ALARM CLOCK VOLUME ...
the alarm clock shares a general ALARM volume
in fact, it's not even a SETTING in the alarm clock menu
I'm a very light sleeper; I jump thru the ceiling if it goes off in total quite ...
so I turn the system general alarm volume way down
... but then all my appointments go unheard thru the noise of the
day because these "alarms" share the same "alarm" volume setting.
BTW, if you change the volume for anything, there's not test noise made, you just have to guess
about your taste preferences with that setting. If the event happens and it was too low or too loud
then you can change it for next time ... you'll eventually "hone in on" correct volume settings to your taste.
(2). OUTSIDE LEDs
(yeah... they look cool and everything at first, but at night you learn that they put out a lot of light ... and if you
don't like to turn off the bluetooth function, then the bluetooth flashing blue LED indicator can have the effect of
police lights in total darkness. Keep this in mind if you plan to sleep next to your phone at night. BTW, if you charge
the phone, the "charging LED" is continuously one and you won't need a night light either. )
(3). No continuous outside time display ... must push button to activate a clock display which will cut off after a few seconds ... so no using this while delivering speeches without picking up phone to see the time. If this was supposed to help the battery life or something ... I would have traded those fancy-smancy cute flashing LEDs on the outside with continuous info for missed calls and a continuous clock display.
(4). No continuous missed calls display for same reasons as above.
(5). must open phone to ignore calls????? I like Motorola's JUST-PRESS-ANY-OUTSIDE-BUTTON concept to ignore a phone call and QUICKLY silence it when it accidentally goes off in a meeting because I forgot to place it into silence.
(6) prioritized power/headset connection ... if you have very nice expensive headphones, you can't use them until an adaptor comes out ... no luck yet!
(7). phone synch software lacks exact controls, such as synch from this direction to this direction. I had everything in synch and did a reset to the phone and thought to myself ... "no prob, I'll just download those phone numbers back to the phone". But the software on the PC viewed this as phone changes were more recent deletes ... so it synchronized the PC and phone to have no contact info .... yep, they were both in synch alright ... I lost all my contact information after resetting my phone. Be careful here.
(8). MicroSD card is meant to be a one-time insert, certainly not hot-swapable as the phone must be turned off to insert it.
(9). Sluggish at times ... and Explorer Browser has locked up twice in my week of use ... but simply turing phone off and back on has cleared it.
===================
Pros ...
(1). very nice form factor ... this light PDA doesn't feel or act like a PDA, instead it looks and feels like a phone.
(2). I read some reviews saying that reception was only "very good" not perfect. I must have had some very poor phones prior to this one because I get signal in a concrete building whereas I could not with previous phones. I hear people's voice crystal clear and vice versa ... The quality of the reception is compatible to a regular phone line IMO.
(3). The screen is very crystal clear ... graphic quality is good, color may be a little blueish at times and seems to be dependant upon what the light color is when viewing the screen.
(4). MP3 palyer and surprizingly the headphones are fairly decent with good sound.
(5). fairly usable camera phone and video recorder. I'm actually using it every now and then to send short video clips to friends.
(6). T9 ... yes I know this may be old hat, but this is MY first phone with t9 text entry ... I love it so much I had to list it.
(7). excellent call history - repeat calls are not clobbered by last call .... and I still don't know how much it can hold ... I've had it for a week now and I just keep building onto that call history ... I believe I have 80 some entries in my call history, complete with lots of information captured for each call ... again, sorry if this is old hat for PDA phones, this is my first, I LOVE THIS feature.
======
Use:
With all it's short comming, I guess I'm addicted to a PDA and can't live with one that doesn't look and feel like a phone. I'm not taking this phone back ... I'm overall pleased with it. I'm sure when the improved versions come out, I'll be unhappy with comparing this one to those ... but for now, it's the best phone on the market for me.
I will say this: there's a world of dual functional key strokes that go unnoticed unless you read completely read thru the owner's manual ( not printed ) ... for example, there were those that complained about going thru MENU system for speaker phone .... I was pleased to learn that DURING A CALL one can press the call button to get into speaker mode. Lots of stuff like this to learn.

Can calls be recorded with this phone?
-
1. The alarm can be chosen to snooze, dismiss, etc. while going off it is under the right hand soft key.
-the alarm volume is set in the profiles, which makes sense, do you want that alarm blowing up when you have the phone set to meeting?
-when you choose a new volume it gives you a sound
2. I agree with this, damn things are bright!
3. What phone has a continuous display? This would be silly since it would drain your battery
4. see above
5. no you don't. when the phone rings on the outside the previous and next buttons allow you to NOT answer the call, or just mute it and go to voicemail.
6. agree, it would be nice to have a generic adapater
7. it does have this feature, if this is your first MS phone and first usage of activesync, that may explain the problem.
when the computer detects this it has a VERY OBVIOUS warning that says, we note changes, do you want to A. sync the computer over the phone, B. phone over the computer, or C. sync both ways.
8. I am not sure why everyone ******* about this, if u get a 2 gig card, what are you going to keep swapping for? phones make crap cameras, and 2gigs is pretty good for mp3's on a phone.
9. so far haven't had this problem, but the sluggish that i have seen is the data service, not as much as the phone.
