"SUPPORT IS TERRIBLE--even if you pay for top levell"
Pros: big (17")your question--and anything else they can think of about your s
Cons: lousy support
Summary: As usual (I've been making this mistake for years--I'm such an optimist--I always think it will have improved) DELL's TECH SUPPORT IS JUST ONE LONG STALL--they ask you everything over and over, from your name and address to a detailed description of anything else they can think of about your system.
Is their object to make you give up? (And buy a new computer from them?)
I've spent twelve hours with them today--on the telephone--online.
Finally, by threatening, I got a pretty good supervisor, who says he'll do what he should, what I paid for--the best level of support 24/7 next day, etc. But he tells me that the first tech lied to me when he said he was shipping me a part to arrive tomorrow, and even gave me a fake case number. WHY DO WE PUT UP WITH THIS???

I don't think you will get better tech support for a non-premium laptop (i.e. not a boutique seller like Alienware or a premium line within Dell like XPS, where you get good support because it's so expensive).
Dell tech support is fast if you're on chat - I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes, and often it's even quicker.
They also practically give away the parts to the computer when they determine they're broken for any reason. It's hard to see how they even make any money, they're so generous.
So basically I completely disagree with your review. Also, your review isn't even on the laptop. -
dude, we all know tech support sucks for almost anything you call for but you should be writing a review on the lap top not the the support.

why dont u rate the product and not the service.

Next time, how 'bout we limit ourselves to a review of the product itself, Mike? What was the problem with the laptop that prompted your need for consumer support? THAT information might have been useful to a person considering an E1705...your diatribe on the poor support from Dell doesn't help at all.

I know the good people of India are very hard workers and really try to understand what is going on but they lack the good old USA Drive. I'm sure there are a lot of college folks who would love one of these jobs to help them with school. This is not the only site that has problems with Tech-Support. It would be really nice to have an English speaking support rep to help you with your computer problems.

Because they will built it like you want it. And yes the problem with Dell is the fact that they outsource ALL phone/email support to foreign countries. I g et mine today, I hope I never have to call.
