"Upscaling really works!" on by godothndr

Pros: Affordable and upscales beautifully to 1080i

    Cons: None I can find

Summary: So I just got this (based on the reviews) from Bestbuy for $110.00. It has not dissapointed; talk bout money well spent! I just purchased a 46" Sony LCD, and my old Sony player with S-video output was not cutting it. I sampled this the first night with the opening to Fellowship of the Ring using the HDMI output, and wow! The detail is entirely transformed from the s-video image. I shudder to think what Blue Ray must look like at 1080p but this was really quite excellent at 1080i. Also, it needed virtually no setup; the player auto detects the HDMI connection and you are off and running out of the box.
The only negative I can find (and this is simply an aspect of upscaling) was some faint lines in the background in some shots. Note: I was staring at the screen looking for flaws, and this was barely detectable. In any event it was far superior to pre-upscaling. This player will do me quite nicely until Blue-Ray comes down from the stratosphere in a year or two.
