"Widescreen HDTV For Half The Price Of LCD"
Pros: Amazing Picture Quality, Superior Sound, Built In HD Tuner, Only 16" Deep
Cons: Heavy Weight (113 lbs.)
Summary: I searched for a reasonably priced LCD television, under $1,000, in the 32" range. There were many off-brand flat panels out there that met the criteria. Then I noticed two Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) models, the Samsung Slimfit 30" and the LG Superslim 30". Both of these televisions were under $700, had HD tuners built in and had a 30" wide screen. The picture quality in a standard CRT TV is said to be much better than either LCD or Plasma, so the only real drawback in purchasing a CRT TV is the size and weight. After a little research, I finally decided on the LG because the Samsungs reportedly had a problem with image bowing on the edges of the screen. This problem was a sporadic problem that affected some but not all Samsung Slimfits. Furthermore, the speakers on the LG were far better than the ones on the Samsung when I listened to them in the store, even though the Samsung has 10-watt speakers while the LG has 7.5-watts per speaker. I have only had it a few weeks, but I don't anticipate any problems. The built in HD tuner enables me to watch High Definition digital broadcasts without a set-top box. Presently, I get the big three networks in HD, besides my regular cable. I would certainly recommend this product to anyone who likes a good value and doesn't want to follow the trend of flat-panel TVs.
