"Great looking TV, Bad Set" on by will177
Pros: Color is fantastic, great picture
Cons: Set died on me after the 5th day
Summary: I waited for a month from a local retailer to get this unit, it was on back order from Panasonic, there was also a waiting list for this unit. When I received the unit I was in love until 5 days later my unit one morning did not turn on. The power indicator flashed 10 times indicating it had problems. Called my retailer to return it and get another one, they were all out of stock. So I called Panasonic and they got a TV repair man to pick up my unit. I just was called today from the TV repair that Panasonic does not have the part to replace on the set, that it was on backorder without a specific date when it will arrive. What the heck is going on over there, it is very fustrating when you spend 3,250 on a nice set and for the past 2 months I only got to watch 5 days worth. I am feeling ripped off here, I am trying to give panasonic the benifit here but it's hard.

Like you, I too fell in love with my Plasma until I I found a picture problem in less than a month. I felt this was not right, and brought it to my retailers attention.

My retailer got on top of it and within a 3 days had a replacement RMA from Panasonic.

Even though the TV was on back-order, my retailer worked out an arrangement with Panasonic to get me a temporary display model until my new TV was available shortly after.

Panasonic was awesome!
The new TV is Flawless (4 monnths later, knock-on-wood)!

It was the retailer that made the difference! (In price also, considering I paid a solid $300 less than you did, your retailer needs a good talking to.)

As a previous comment stated, not all things are made perectly, don't be so hard on Panasonic! Your rating of 3 brings down the average rating for something that is not really related to the performance and quality of the TV!

All of you considering this TV, in my humble oppinion, go for it! Amazing value, awesome picture, stunning and impresive in every aspect!

I bought a 50" Plasma Panasonic T.V. from "One Call" in Spokane Washington.

A couple of months after I had the T.V. I noticed lines around the edge. I called Panasonic and they sent T.V. Unlimited located in Sunnyvale, Calif. to come and look at my set.

They sent two repairman in an old van to look at my Plasma T.V. They said they didn't know anything about Plasma T.V.'s and convinced me that there was nothing wrong with my T.V.
Last night Nov. 17, 2005 I had been watching my plasma T.V. for around 2 hours when all of a sudden yellow, green lines were running up and down my T.V. over the picture.

I called Panasonic again today Nov.18,2005 and again they put me in touch with T.V. Unlimited from Sunnyvale, Calif.
The same two guys that came out before came to my house again.

They told me they didn't know anything about Plasma T.V.'s. When the repairman from T.V. Unlimited turned on my T.V. the lines were there but then disappeared. They said they did not know if it was the cable or the T.V. But then the T.V. started working fine and continued working fine for the 45 min. they were here turning it on and off.

They told me that they would have to take it into the shop. I told them because it is late on Fri. night and next week is Thanksgiving and we only have this T.V. and it is now working correctly could they please come after Thanksgiving if it started having problems again.

The owner got on the phone from T.V. Unlimited and told me that they were completely booked for the next month and they could not come to my house again. I told him the T.V. is working, the men that you sent do not know anything about Plasma T.V.'s!!!

He said he had to take it now or he would not come to my house again. Then they would have it in their shop and have to have to find a person who knew how to work on Plasma T.V.'s come and look at it when it stopped working.

That meant that they would have my T.V. for more than two or 3 weeks without having a clue what the problem was and I would be without the only Television we have in our home.

The manager from T.V. Unlimited was rude to me on the phone and said that even though I have a warranty they would charge me to come to my house again.

I don't think Panasonic should deal with such underhanded, schemeing people that don't know how to service a Plasma T.V.
I think Panasonic needs to find reputable repair people that know how to service a plasma T.V.

I am very disappointed in Panasonic for sending such rude and incompetent people to work on such an expensive Plasma T.V.

This is silicon Valley, with tons of technicians, why does Panasonic pick people that have no idea how to work on a Plasma Television to come to my home.

I am very disappointed in Panasonic and their repair program. If I knew this would happen I would not have bought this expensive Televison with such poor service.

28 day old Pioneer PDP4350 quit working one day. Nearly zero help from Pioneer. No techs available to repair it in city of 200K population. Returned it to Best Buy.

You commented on how great the TV set was during the first 5 days. Your initial post was on July 7th. That was 3 months ago. Do you have an update on the set itself or is a 3 still the rating you are sticking with?? Most other people seem to really like this particular set. So before rushing to cnet to drop a 3 on a product you really enjoyed when you first got it, maybe you should have judged it based on an overall experience. I don't think 5 days is a very fair assessment on your end.......

Good luck, Had about the same problem on a 27" TV. It took 3 month to get my money back.

I wouldn't be so hard on panasonic about your tv. keep in mind that not everything is made perfect 100 percent of the time. I don't work for panasonic, but I know alot about electronics and I know even more about televisions. Keep in mind that you bought that plasma as soon as it came out. so, there for no they aren't going to have to product replacement parts right away all of those parts were put in to those plasmas it takes awhile for the manufacture and retailers to get them in.
