"Average TV for a small budget. Great Starter HD TV."
Pros: Easy to set up. Plugs are on either side, Left for outputs, right for inputs (facing the tv). The tv has its own wire management that works well. 720p HD tuner. Center speakers can be unplugged.
Cons: Component and HDMI audio does not route to the audio outputs. Optical audio input makes no sense. Remote seems cheesy and hard to use. Some buttons don't work on the tv.
Summary: I purchased this tv because it was a cheap HD lcd. It, so far, has worked well. I am angry that the audio from component and hdmi don't route to the audio outputs, but it is not disabling. VGA input from laptop show very crisp. This is a great tv for a small living room, if you are sitting about 3-6 feet from tv. There is only basic audio/video outputs, but it does include a headphone out with a separate volume control. There are some advanced software functions like channel label, but overall the software is lacking. There is also a serial interface for god knows what. Overall quality is good, but not great.
Very light tv. Very bright. Remote can be programmed to control basic tivo, vcr, dvd functions.
Tech Support for insignia is not very knowledgeable. They tried to tell me that the serial port is for sending video to the TV.

I am using this for my (full time) home office which is in the attic. I did not plan to get this large a screen but at $479 last week...What a nice replacement over my old 20" portable that weighed about double. The universal remote is the same as the one used by envision. It is hooked up to cable. My only issue is that certain local channels (2 through 13) have ghosting. The channels varies day to day and I have no problems if I run the picture through the VCR which is attached through the standard 3 way audio/video cable (no DVD attached). Any suggestions would be appreciated as the manual does not help.

They unfortunately neglected to label the SPDIF fiber optial digital audio port as an OUTPUT, both on the jack panel, and in the user manual, a serious oversight, the n1tw1ts! Nevertheless, it functioned fine for me, and keeps the pristine digital audio uncorrupted clean from the digital sources, through the TV, all the way to your home theater amp, or even digital speakers in an ideal scenario.
Me likes. -
USB port for future firmware updates and patches, via PC link (for downloads).
Includes industry standard SPDIF fiber optic audio output port, works fine.
Plenty big and bright enough for small family room viewing from 10 feet away.
Got it on sale for ~$550 USD, and opted for 4-year extended warranty, just in case.
I'm impressed with it, and will try the PC A/V ports hookups tonight.
