"Great price, but you get what you pay for."
Pros: This laptop has greats stats. It does most things that most people would want it to.
Cons: Cracked/loose/broken hinges. Tech suppport
Summary: My M6805 has been into emachines now 3 times. The problem has been the screen is loose and starts to flicker. I was hoping after the first time that the problem was permanently solved. Well, I was wrong. I came back. The second time back they put the laptop in the box without putting it in the plastic sleeve to protect it. Needless to say, it scratched the lid. That was not how it was sent to them. So after contacting them again they reluctantly repaired it again. However, they failed to repair the plastic piece around the speaker jack. That was stated from the start and it was getting difficult to use the jack. Well, at this point I had had enough. So I contacted the BBB and got a contact for emachines from them and contacted emachines again with this info. They were telling me that this problem was cosmetic. Well, that didn't set well with me. So a few days later, I got a call from emachines stating that with all the problems they are replacing my laptop with a refurb. We will see because I have spoke to several people that have had the same problem. This laptop was going to replace a desktop but I can't have the thing in the repair shop every few weeks/months. I will at this point never go back to emachines or gateway. They are fast to have the laptop repaired but it comes back with the same problem real soon. Not a very reliable product. We won't even go into all the problems with installing SP2. That can be a nightmare. If you have one of these laptops, I recommend that you get the SP2 CD from Microsoft and reformat the HD using the emachines DVD and then immediately put SP2 on using the CD without getting online. I had to learn this the hard way. Good luck to those that have an emachines/gateway laptop.

It is disquieting to find out that many of the problems I have experienced with my Emachine M6809 are not uncommon. I have had my laptop for a year and a half and during that time have needed it serviced repeatedly. The initial problem was in loading the SP2. The computer immediately crashed and then once on again, would freeze and not shut down. Call number 1 - which took 3 and 1/2 hours to solve. Next it was the internet explorer program that froze the entire system. Call number 2 - A problem with the way in which the hard drive was configured.
Then there are the cracked hinges, loose and flickering screen and STILL unanticipated freezing. If I download software, install software or put the computer in hybernation mode it either freezes or shuts down.
In addition the battery life for this series is ridiculous. An hour and a half is the maximum time my computer will run on battery - regardless of what the power meter says.
I will never buy another product from Emachines, and will be returning the computer to Best Buy - atleast the Performance Service Plan was worth the money.
