"Rating 6 out of 10. Good video quality, not easy to capture to PC" on by k.takahashi

Pros: Easy control and reasonably good still photo quality

Cons: Hard to capture to PC for editing

Summary: I went through a few available description of this camcorder as well as asking at the store before purchasing and no mention for need of Firewire connection. Panasonic Customer Service (Canada) also informed, after I have trouble, that I need Firewire connection. Even Manual did not say. I could capture only using Windows Movie Maker convert to .wmv before using other video editor. Poor customer service and product description.

I read the review before I bought it but when i did what was written in the manual it worked like a charm. What I did was this:
1. Installed the CD software first.
2. Restart your PC
3. Connect the USB cable to PC only (do not connect to camcorder)
4. Connect the camcorder with the powersupply (the one supplied) [use AC power]
5. goto menu basic or advance and change USB mode to (i cant remember the exact wordings) but change it such that it do not show USB card or disk reading. it should be direct media so that it can playback to USB. Exit from menu.
6. Now change the mode of camcorder to video playback.
7. turn off the camcorder.
8. Connect it to USB cable.
9. Turn on the cam
10. Now you can use any software which captures Streams from video device to record from the tape.

I use Windows Movie maker and Adobe Premier and both work very well with it. Movie Maker gives me option to revind and then record from beginning which is sometimes annoying as I dont want to record from beginning everytime. But I realize that it is useful for anattended recording. Choose a nice setting for video recording like 2.1mbps with 640x480 at least and you can burn nearly 2.5 hours of video on a DVD with high quality.

This is not official guide to this camcorder. this was my experience so I shared. Try something new and share it. We all learn by mistakes.
