Review: Venturi Mini

The Venturi Mini in-car audio and communications hub is an innovative, feature-packed device. Its effectiveness as a Bluetooth hands-free speakerphone will depend on the location of your car's 12-volt power outlet, and its phonebook transfer feature is temperamental to say the least. But its simple design, intuitive controls, and competitive price tag make it an attractive option for those looking to bring hands-free calling, Bluetooth audio, and hardwired digital audio playback into the car. Review: 2008 Mercedes-Benz S63

How do you improve upon what is arguably the most technologically advanced production car on the market? Easy--make it go faster. When we reviewed the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan last year, we were blown away by its arsenal of tech features, including its night-vision camera, preternatural voice-recognition system, and optional massage seats. With the S63, Mercedes keeps all the technoluxury intact and bolts on an AMG-tuned 6.3-liter V-8. The results are...well, see for yourself.

Six-wheeled Porsche 928 pickup

If you're worried by the prospect of the forthcoming Porsche Panamera sedan, you might want to look away now.

Not content with his existing collection of exotic sports cars, Harry Thoma decided to take an axel grinder and his unique design philosophy to a perfectly respectable Porsche 928 GTS.

The result is this six-wheeled abomination creation that, unsurprisingly, has heads turning on the streets of Germany. In addition to the enhanced bodywork, the three-axle flatbed also gets an engine upgrade from a 5.4-liter to 6.1-liter plant to assist with the extra weight.

While you might take issue … Read more

Review: 2008 Mazda RX-8

The Mazda RX-8 is one of the most distinctive sports cars on the road thanks to its unique rotary engine and its aggressive, comic-book styling. Its interior tech leaves plenty to be desired, but for sheer mid-market driving pleasure, the high-revving, four-door coupe is hard to beat. This week Mazda announced that it will be unveiling an update of the RX-8 to next month's Detroit auto show. Until then, you can check out our review of the 2008 model right here.

Ford Mustang to offer better view

Hope you didn't buy that Mustang Bullitt for the Ali MacGraw in your life just yet.

Ford announced it's now offering a factory-installed panoramic glass roof option for both the Steve McQueen-inspired Bullitt and the Shelby GT500KR. The glass roof, as an option for its V-6 Mustang and Mustang GT, will become available in the summer of 2008, according to Ford.

To be clear, this is not a hardtop convertible, but a fixed glass roof option. It will be available for $1,995.

And, as no one wants an over-heated driver, the glass roof is made of tinted … Read more

Review: 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI

With its diesel engine, the 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI transports seven people and plenty of cargo while getting mileage worthy of a midsize sedan. The oversize SUV from Mercedes-Benz features all the interior luxury we would expect from the German carmaker, along with performance that favors economy over power. Unfortunately, it uses the same baseline cabin gadgets we saw in its gasoline-engined counterpart, the Mercedes-Benz GL450. This system covers a lot of the basics well enough, but the interface is poor and some features are antiquated.

Photos: Philling up your Honda Civic GX

With all the buzz around hybrids and hydrogen cars, it's easy to forget that the cleanest vehicle on the road is the natural-gas powered Honda Civic GX. While it might be clean, however, it is a pain to fill up thanks to its paltry 220-mile range and a scarcity of public natural gas fueling stations (fewer than 150 nationwide). To make life easier for GX owners, Honda has partnered with FuelMaker to develop the Phill home refueling station, which enables drivers to fill their tanks in their own garage. We got a close-up view of the first Phill system … Read more

Review: 2008 Audi TT Coupe

Our week with Audi's second-generation TT Coupe came soon after our earlier test of the Audi TT Roadster. We enjoyed the convertible version enough to give it an Editors' Choice award, mainly thanks to its unflappable performance and roster of available tech options.

The TT Coupe similarly impressed us, with its dynamic performance benefiting slightly from the inherently stiffer chassis that comes with a fixed roof versus a retractable one. Our test Coupe didn't include the navigation option just as the Roadster hadn't, and worse, did without our droptop's magnetic ride suspension, but we did get … Read more
