Ever stepped through a grate on the street with your high heels? Yeah, neither have I...but the ladies have. Obviously they are much more qualified to talk about these awesome shoes than I am.

Hi there, whoever’s on the show this week, three words: butt, backpack, pink. This is both “what the hell,” “pinkwatch,” “tooltime,” and “kill me,” all rolled into one…

Wow. (Also, sorry about any trademark violations re: my e-mail address… I just had to get it while it was still available&#8230

Greetings, Gadgettes

I’m writing in reference to the iRoticNet service that you mentioned in episode 98. I don’t quite understand who the target demographic is. Sure, I enjoy adult material just as much as the next guy, but I’m sure that most would agree that its best viewed in a private setting on a full size monitor, which would make putting it on a portable device rather pointless. I’m just not sure who would need porn to go and, quite frankly, I don’t think I want to know.

Love the show, but just as a friend
John in New Jersey

*****

That subwoofer that you guys talked about on the show sounds pretty cool. But instead of just making the ground rumble or blasting out some loud bass guitar, I thought of a better use for it:

Just sneak up to you neighbor’s house (the neighbor you don’t like) and hit the house with a hammer. Record its resonance with a high quality portable recorder, and then play that through the subwoofer.

Tony

It only took the Gadgettes one minute to break the cardinal rule: do not talk about "the device that shall not be named." We learn our lesson and boycott "it" for the rest of the episode. So here's everything but.

Hi Gadgeteers, this is Trish from New York City.

As much as I hate the “D” word, I have been presented with the ultimate douchebaggy phone message and could not resist passing it on to you. I got this link from a male friend and it truly gets more unbelievable as it unfolds, so listen to the end. You will be torn between guffawing and gasping in sheer amazement at this guy’s spiel.

The FlyWire transmitter can send up to six AV sources an HDMI-equipped TV or projector.
(Credit: Belkin)

Belkin today announced the pricing and planned availability for its FlyWire wireless HDMI accessory. The unit will eventually be available in two separate versions: a $1,000 multi-room unit set to hit in October, and a stepdown $700 model dubbed the R1, which is intended for single-room installations.

TheFlyWire wireless HDMI kit garnered a nomination for the Best of CES Awards back in January, where it successfully demonstrated the ability to wirelessly transmit uncompressed high-definition video and audio. (See a CNET TV video of the FlyWire in action after the break.)That would allow consumers to have their AV sources--cable/satellite box, game console, Blu-ray/DVD players, and the like--feed into the FlyWire transmitter, which then wirelessly streams the resulting audio and video to the FlyWire receiver connected to a wall-mounted flatscreen TV (or a projector on the ceiling), whether it's on the other side of the room or even (with the $1,000 FlyWire) in a different room altogether.

The initial, pricier FlyWire transmitter will be able to toggle between 6 separate AV sources. It includes 3 HDMI inputs (one with analog audio inputs for compatibility with DVI sources); 2 component inputs (also with corresponding stereo analog audio inputs); and one standard-def video input (using either composite or S-video). In addition to the included remote (for choosing a source), the $1,000 FlyWire will support IR receiver and IR blaster attachments, so you can use your existing remotes (or a universal remote) by pointing it at the TV screen, and then have those commands passed on to the source device attached to the FlyWire receiver, even if they're in another room or a secluded closet. (The $700 FlyWire R1 lacks those more advanced remote options.)

We've seen FlyWire prototypes both at January's CES and at a closed-door media preview in New York last spring, and the product definitely shows potential. But the burden is now on Belkin to hit that October release window. A similar wireless HDMI product from Philips--debuted a full year earlier--has yet to see the light of day. Meanwhile, competitors ranging from Monster Cable to Sony have their own wireless HDMI offerings on deck.

I have had a motion sensor activated electric trash can for almost two years now, and I LOVE it. It did not cost me $300 however: it was only $50 at Costco Home. I realize that at this time it is too late for V-day, but you should treat yourself to it anyway.

BTW, my wife loves it more than I do.

--
Owen

Hiram:
Molly was wanting a copy of the Oxford English Dictionary for her Treo. I just wanted to point out that Handmark makes the "Oxford American Desk Dictionary and Thesaurus" on an MMC card which should fit in the SD/MMC slot on the Treo. It works on both Palm OS and Windows Mobile. I don't think they have the Oxford English Dictionary, though.

Hiram

E-MAIL:
Hey guys,
One use of the refrigerated medicine cabinet that you guys didn’t mention on this weeks show was for medicine. My father in-law is diabetic and must refrigerate his insulin, and whenever I go to his house I always find it kind of odd that he keeps all that stuff in the refrigerator. I think this would be great for him that way he doesn’t have to keep his insulin and needles and stuff next to the butter anymore. Just thought I would mention this use.

Thanks,
--David

To Gadgettes,

My nan always used keep her lipstick in the fridge (also she kept her rings there, but that was to hide them from her son who wanted to sell them when he inherits them, which he won’t.) but instead of moving her fridge to the bathroom, she moved the mirror to the fridge. Genius.

Love the show and Lindsay!
--Mark, Australia.

Hi Dear Molly, Jason, and Lindsey

My name is George and I am a second year physics grad student at UC Berkeley and work in a basement lab for most of the day (and listen to Gadgettes, BOL, and other CNET shows). Anyways, you were talking about the toothpaste drool removal kit and I have to say I could have used one of those. I often rush to lab in the morning so I have to brush my teeth really quickly at 8 a.m., getting some of that drool on my T-shirt and people in my lab look weird at me when they see it.

:((
I loooove you all
--Ghe

A Ponderage** about hot water during Gadgettes 95

Well if Water could get hotter,

Wouldn’t it eventually turn to Steam …

You cant really Clean yourself in steam can you but,

You get a Sauna!!! Yeah Saunas!

--Patrick

**(I do not know if that is a word)

Hi Molly, Jason, Lindsey, and baby awaiting Kelly,

Maybe Molly remembers but I’m the guy from Kobe, Japan, who wrote to clarify what the Japanese call the mobile phone straps (keitai awhile back.

Well, the karaoke talk on Ep. 95 inspired me to write again. Molly, you’re absolutely right. The K for karaoke does stand for regret. The Japanese word for regret happens to be ‘kohkai’.

Keep up the great work gals (and guy),

--Terrance

If your water is already hot, then you don’t need to heat it. Therefore it is a Solar Water Heater, not a Solar Hot Water Heater. And yes, that is nitpicking

Dear Gadgettes,

OMG! I just got the dyson DC17 and it is SO awesome! It is super easy to put together and start using, it practically propels itself, has super suctiony goodness. When I use it in wand mode, it doesn’t spit dirt out the front and the base is sturdy enough that it doesn’t fall over and hit me in the butt!

None of my girlfriends are geeks, I had to share with someone. (Not open for discussion: how many rugs I actually have in my apartment.)

Gadgettes,

Hey gang, I was listening to episode 94 and the discussion of the poor copy editing and unnecessary use of quotation marks reminded me of one of my favorite blogs:
The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks http://quotation-marks.blogspot.com/

Not technology related, but very “humorous.”

Anyhow, “love” the show. Keep “up” the good “work.”

1- Getting mentioned on the show like I was Chelline (Shalene?) was frakkin’ cool.
2- Yes, a picture did pop into my head, here it is.
There’s also a few guys who ’soup’ up their golf carts with bigger

Disclaimer: unless you're a makeup-wearing male (or a woman who loves both gadgets and makeup in equal measure), stop reading here.

It's seems like a guaranteed way to poke yourself in the eye, but that hasn't stopped Estee Lauder from introducing what is believed to be the first tube of vibrating mascara, according to beauty and fashion magazine Women's Wear Daily.

Estee Lauder claims there is "a relationship between vibration, length, volume, separation and curl." Stifle your laughter or raunchy jokes.

The battery-operated mascara brush will vibrate at 125 micropulses per second and has the exciting name "TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara." Makeup-wearing gadget lovers may be willing to shell out the $30 for the high-tech eye makeup, which goes on sale exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue on July 17.

The pulsating mascara is just another item to add to the growing list of beauty products aiming to make the world a prettier, less stationary place.

Hi Molly and Jason (and also Kelley, but she won’t be there)

I’ve just found the ultimate workstation. The Emperor by NovelQuest [ http://www.novelquest.com/emperor.html ]. Its the only workstation worthy of getting the job done if you’re planning on bringing everyone over to the Dark side…

So you guys might consider getting CBS to buy these for all of you — launch is in July, price unannounced.
I so want this it hurts.

Hey Guys!

In episode 93, you discussed the leisure tub. Its pure awesomeness inevitably brings up the question: What if it becomes self-aware? You’d call it from work and tell it to set the water and change the channel to Oprah, and it responds, “I’m sorry, Kelly, I’m afraid I can’t do that.” And then, when you do get home and get in the tub, it turns the water up to scalding and kills you. Think about that.

--Niko

P.S. Bye Kelly! We miss you!

I noticed that we do not have a Facebook group for the Gadgettes podcast. I asked Jason about it–he said he has too much stuff that he’s busy with, so I created one. So, let all your listeners know: all they have to do is search for “Gadgettes” on Facebook and they should find the group. If you have a Facebook, please join.

I HAVE THE HOT DOG TOASTER!! its probably not exactly the same one, since mine is called….the hot-diggity-dogger!!
it also toasts 2 buns and hotdogs, and it RULES!

i just got really excited when you mentioned it on the show, so i had to email you guys

too bad Kelly isnt there to read this

If you like random, surprise gifts and are okay with risking further clutter in your abode - this is the site for you!
Each ’something’ cost $10 (free shipping). This kind reminds me of the ‘bag-o-crap’ offerings from Woot.com. Honestly, this really could be a clever and fun money-making idea…

Sex and the City movie brainwashed the Buffalo girls

Hey Molly and Kelly, (and jason too!)

I work at a club in downtown Buffalo, NY, and last Friday night we were inundated by a large number of middle aged women, who barged in demanding dance music and martinis. I sat in the DJ booth scratching my head, wondering what could be the cause of this phenomenon when I realized that Sex and the City had just opened across the street. No doubt, these women came out of the theater and ran to the closest gay club in town, determined to break it down just like Kim Cattrall. If that wasn’t enough, 4 girls from Skyy vodka came in and passed around passion fruit martinis in collaboration with the movie release. Then the clock struck one, and all the women realized that they don’t live the illustrious life of the four NYC socialites and went home…

Love the Show!

****************

Ya’ll were really funny last week. here’s the pictures that popped into my head while listening.

Well, *the movie* made a ton of money last weekend and is now, apparently the new banner of feminism. I would like to declare myself not a fan. Thanks for making fun of it last week. Somehow I think now it’s anti-feminist to be a girl and not really like the show/movie.

Good luck to Kelly, look forward to your return.

Hey Gadgettsters,

In episode 92 you talked about the donut BBQ and the idea of the “beer dinghy” came up. This, of course, begs the question…

Can I jack my dinghy?

*****************

Here’s my celebrity douche story:

I am at the U.S. Open in 2005 and I’m standing in a huge walkway that is between Armstrong and GrandStand (I know someone in the audience knows what I’m talking about) And who do I see approaching me in the distance. It’s John McEnroe. So when he almost is near me I say “Hey, John” as he replies with… Nothing! Sniff sniff. I know he saw me and heard me but after I said hi he didn’t even look at me. He walked right past me, up the stairs and into the broadcast booth at which point my dad yells “Jackass!” Who would not even say hi to an innocent twelve year old boy. We were the only ones in the walkway so there is no excuse like he didn’t hear me at didn’t notice me, It was just pure Douche-ness.
Douche Factor on the Douche-o-meter: Douchetastic

Love the show.
Marco

P.S. Who is going to take Kelly’s place while she’s gone?

*****************

Kelly,
I do not blame you for being afraid of excess lighter fluid. Once, I put an insane amount on to light a fire, and when my family and I made marshmallows, they turned green from all the chemicals. GROSS
