T-Mobile to get iPhone 5 as well, report says

Just a day after a high-profile report that Sprint would be getting Apple's next iPhone, a new report claims T-Mobile USA will be getting it as well.

Citing "a contact within T-Mobile," Apple tracking blog MacTrast says the U.S. carrier will be getting a version of the iPhone 5 that will run on the company's 3G network sometime in "early to mid-October."

The move would be especially notable given that AT&T plans to buy T-Mobile USA off Deutsche Telekom as part of a $39 billion deal announced in late March. While … Read more

Apple already shooting TV ads for iPhone 5 (report)

In the run up to the next iPhone, rumor has it that Apple's already getting the unannounced device ready for its small-screen debut.

According to sources reporting to AppleInsider, Apple has begun production on TV advertisements to promote the iPhone 5 that will not be ready until the first week of October.

Combating rumors of the iPhone 5 release date have placed its debut at the end of September or beginning of October, with October 7 being the most popular line of thinking. According to an AT&T executive, the phone company will be ramping up its operations … Read more

Sprint to sell iPhone 5 in October, report says

Sprint to sell iPhone 5 in October, report says

Sprint Nextel may finally be getting the iPhone.

The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources, reported today that the nation's third-largest wireless carrier will begin selling the iPhone 5 alongside Verizon Wireless and AT&T in mid-October.

Gaining access to the iPhone would represent a major victory for Sprint. Selling Apple's smartphone would put the carrier--which lags behind its larger rivals--on relatively equal footing with Verizon and AT&T. Exclusively offering the iPhone had, for years, been a massive advantage for AT&T, until Verizon began selling its version of the device earlier this year. … Read more

Leak: iPhone 5 will not have front-facing LED flash

According to a recent leak in the parts distribution chain, the iPhone 5 may not have the rumored front-facing LED flash as previously expected.

The photo shows what is purported to be the iPhone 5 camera module next to the camera module from the current iPhone 4. The two parts look extremely similar, though the iPhone 5 module seems to be lacking a front-facing LED flash unit, a feature thought to be a given for the new model.

Reports surrounding the camera for the iPhone 5 have stated that Apple will be using an 8-megapixel Sony unit, upping its current … Read more

Leaked photo could show iPhone 5 screen production

Leaked photo could show iPhone 5 screen production

Well it's not September 7 (or is it October 7) yet, so there's still time for some crazy iPhone 5 fever to spread around the Web. Today's installment brings a leaked photo reportedly depicting factory workers preparing iPhone 5 screens.

Two unfortunate details exist about this photograph however. The first, is the stunning lack of clarity in its framing. Nowhere in the photo is there anything to suggest that this is even an iPhone, let alone an iPhone 5. The second, and perhaps more gratuitous error is the lack of a source on the part of Cult … Read more

iPhone 5 now rumored to launch October 7

The iPhone 5 could go on sale on Friday, October 7, with preorders to start on September 30, according to the latest rumors in the ongoing saga of the hotly anticipated next edition of Apple's smartphone.

Citing intel from its own sources, 9To5Mac said yesterday that Apple had been eyeing either October 7 or October 14 as potential iPhone 5 launch dates. But with preproduction apparently running smoothly, the site says, Apple has opted for the earlier date.

Apple will reportedly offer the phone for preorder a week before it hits store shelves, looking at either September 29 or … Read more

Rumor: Carriers testing 4G LTE iPhones

Rumor: Carriers testing 4G LTE iPhones

A 4G LTE iPhone is coming. That's the conclusion drawn by Boy Genius Report, which reported this morning that at least one carrier is testing iPhone models with 4G LTE capabilities.

BGR says it has "obtained evidence of an internal iOS test build from one of Apple's major carrier partners, and buried in the firmware is a property list (.plist file) for LTE."

Which partner? BGR doesn't say, but the smart money's on Verizon, the only current iPhone carrier with an active LTE network. (As CNET's Scott Webster reported a few days ago, … Read more

Is this what the iPhone 5 looks like? MacRumors says yes

If the latest rumors are true, we'll find out September 7 what the iPhone 5 looks like. That's when Apple will purportedly hold a media event to unveil whatever it's been hatching all summer.

In the meantime, MacRumors has cooked up some decidedly sexy mockups of the iPhone 5. (Click either photo for a larger version.) But these images aren't based on wishful thinking; Chinese case manufacturers have already started producing iPhone 5 cases based on some design specs that were leaked last month.

Consequently, MacRumors commissioned CiccareseDesign to "create high-quality renderings made as closely … Read more

Apple iPhone 5, 'iCloud phone' event set for Sept. 7?

The latest reports and rumors in the world of Apple purport that the company is planning a media event for September 7 and may unveil a free "iCloud iPhone" alongside its standard iPhone 5.

Japanese tech news site Kodawarisan (English version) says that Apple will announce its new lineup of iPods at the September 7 event. That's around the same date that Apple typically shows off its new iPods, though last year the company kicked off the event slightly earlier in the month, on September 1.

Kodawarisan listed the date as September 8, but as MacRumors points … Read more

Rumor: iPhone 5 out for carrier testing

As the rumor mill surrounding the impending release of Apple's iPhone 5 continues to churn, wireless carriers find themselves in the mix, reportedly testing the latest version of the iPhone for network compatibility and stability.

The Guardian (U.K.) has filed a report saying that its sources claim that carriers have received the highly secure boxes that contain the iPhone 5 testing units from Apple.

"The next iPhones go for their testing inside locked and sealed boxes so that the carriers can carry out checks on their network compatibility in their labs."

The boxes are rarely opened … Read more
