Conde Nast, Adobe to bring New Yorker to iPad

Conde Nast, Adobe to bring New Yorker to iPad

Conde Nast confirms it will produce an iPad-friendly version The New Yorker magazine using Adobe's Digital Magazine Solution technology. This technology helps publishers create interactive experiences for their readers using a blend of applications, technologies, and services provided by Adobe.

On the heels of what is considered a successful launch of the Wired Magazine App, Conde Nast's CEO, Chuck Townsend, notes that though the Wired app surpassed the print magazine's newsstand sales it, "has not cannibalized them either." This comes as a big win for Adobe, who continues to be embattled with Apple over the … Read more

iPhone game sale part 2: Gameloft titles for 99 cents

I love a good price war! Earlier this week, Barnes & Noble took on Amazon, slashing its Nook e-book reader to $199 and prompting Amazon to cut the Kindle to $189.

Tuesday, Electronic Arts launched a 48-hour app sale (ending Wednesday night) that dropped 14 of its most popular iPhone/iPod games to 99 cents each.

Not to be outdone, developer Gameloft just fired back with a 99-cent sale on seven of its top titles--all of which usually sell for $4.99. Here's the list:

Analyst estimates 16.5 million iPads sold by 2012

Apple on Tuesday said it had sold more than 3 million iPads since it was released 80 days ago. That works out to about 37,500 iPads every day since it was introduced on April 3.

Of course, that's an average number--some days, like during opening weekend, were a bit higher than others. Still, that's not a bad average. According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, that's up from 34,000 per day when Apple hit the 2 million mark.

"Using Apple's frequent unit sales updates we know that the daily run-rate has varied from … Read more

Sonos prepping iPad app

Sonos prepping iPad app

We just met up with the folks from Sonos, who are in New York showing an alpha version of the company's upcoming free app that turns the iPad into a giant Wi-Fi remote.

As you might expect, the iPad app looks a lot a like Sonos' iPhone app but the iPad's larger screen shows off more info at once, so you don't have to toggle through a couple of windows to set what music's playing on each ZonePlayer. You can even drag and drop songs or services (such as Pandora) onto a Zone to play those … Read more

E-mail composition now the star of iPad's Gmail show

E-mail composition now the star of iPad's Gmail show

Lest it be said that Google has forgotten about the iPad in its quest to optimize Gmail.com for iPhone and Android, the company issued a tweak today.

Now when you visit Gmail.com from the iPad, you'll notice a larger Compose window that expands across the screen to highlight your e-mail. Before the update, you'd see the width of the screen divided between the in-box on the left and the composition window on the right.

The change gives you deeper focus on the message, while still making it easy to save or discard an e-mail and get … Read more
