LG has revealed the largest 4K OLED TV shown in the United States today, a television featuring a curved 77-inch screen, and won a CES Best of Innovations award.
The LG Ultra High Definition Curved OLED TV was shown at the Consumer Electronics Association's Ultra HD Conference and was designed to showcase both the new consumer resolution -- Ultra HD or "4K" -- and the picture quality benefits of OLED technology, such as better color and contrast than LCD.
Roku recently passed the 1,000-channel mark and that list is about to get even longer.
Roku announced today that WatchESPN, Watch Disney, Watch Disney Junior, and Watch Disney XD will be added to the company's streaming boxes. It's a bit of catchup for the company, as the same collection of apps were added to its main competitor, the Apple TV, earlier this year.
The new apps bolster Roku's live video offerings, as WatchESPN offers access to live TV from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN 3, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN News, plus additional on-demand content; Watch Disney also … Read more
Apparently one of the more annoying inconveniences of the PS3 will be sticking around for another generation.
A Sony representative confirmed to CNET that the PS4 cannot receive infrared (IR) remote control commands, which means it won't work with a traditional universal remote such as the Logitech Harmony 650. We were also unable to find an IR receptor on our PS4 review unit, and Sony says the PS4 Eye camera can't receive IR commands either.
It's an irksome omission, especially for a living room device that can play Blu-ray movies and stream video from services like Netflix, … Read more
If you're a serious enough gamer to thinking about buying a new TV along with a new Xbox One or PlayStation 4, or even if you're waiting, you should know about TV input lag.
That's the term for the delay, in milliseconds, between a TV receiving a signal and the results of that signal appearing on the screen. Those milliseconds are irrelevant for TV shows and movies, and they don't even matter for most games -- the majority of gamers probably wouldn't even notice if their TV was laggy. But if you're an attentive, skilled gamer, especially one who plays "twitch" games like Call of Duty, Halo, or fighting games, especially in online multiplayer environments, input lag can mean the difference between virtual life and death.
CNET just started testing for input lag this year, and so far we've corralled a bunch of 2013 TVs. Here are the best five TV so far, plus one projector, in ascending order of lag in Game mode -- or the least laggy picture mode, if Game isn't an option. For reference, we grade under 40ms of lag as Good, 40 to 70 as Average, and more than 70 as Poor.
Update, November 11, 2013: Since we last updated this roundup, no TV has cracked the Top 5. In response to reader demand, however, I posted a table at the end of the article that gathers the lag scores of every TV and projector we've tested so far. It will be updated periodically.
The Xbox One is ready to be the hub of your living room.
That's been the pitch since Day 1 for Microsoft's next-gen console, but it wasn't until this Wednesday that the CNET crew had a chance to check out many of the Xbox One's home entertainment features in person.
We already knew that the Xbox One would include Blu-ray playback, the TV overlay functionality called OneGuide, and built-in support for voice and motion control through the included Kinect. But many of the specifics have been hard to come by, especially regarding the challenges of integrated TV.… Read more
After a couple weeks of sleeves-rolled-up, dark-room, side-by-side testing -- peppered with wrangling 4K sources, juggling newfangled gear, and chatting up industry colleagues -- I've finally been able to publish a couple of reviews of name-brand 4K TVs.
Sony has announced the entertainment apps that will be available on the PlayStation 4 when the console launches on November 15. Dominated by familiar names like Netflix, Amazon Instant, Crackle, and Hulu Plus, the lineup is similar to what's offered on the current PS3 console.
According to Sony, the launch lineup is as follows:
Amazon Instant Video Crackle Crunchyroll Epix Hulu Plus NBA Game Time Netflix NHL GameCenter Live Redbox Instant Sony Music Unlimited Sony Video Unlimited Vudu YuppTV
The most notable name missing from the list is YouTube. Also absent (despite being available on the PS3) are Cinema … Read more
