LAS VEGAS--CTIA 2010 has come to a close, and the show produced some really awesome smartphones, cell phones, and applications. However, it's one thing to read about these devices and services, and it's another thing to actually see them live.

Along with the Modus 3500 and the HM1000, Samsung also showed us a whole slew of Bluetooth headsets that it hopes to release in the second quarter of 2010. They are the HM1600, the HM1500, the HM3200, the HM3600, and the WEP570.

The HM1600 is sort of like the bigger brother of the HM1000. It also has active pairing and multipoint technology, but it has a much sleeker styling than the HM1000. LAS VEGAS--Day two of CTIA 2010 is in the books, and it was another action-packed 24 hours filled with talk of wireless trends and product announcements. If you missed any of the news, don't worry. We've rounded up the highlights of the day's events, which include our hands-on analysis and photo galleries, right here for your reading pleasure.

LAS VEGAS--Samsung released a couple of new Bluetooth headsets here at CTIA 2010, and they are the Samsung Modus 3500 mono-to-stereo headset, plus a simple mono headset called the Samsung HM1000. Both headsets will be available in Q1 of this year.

The Samsung Modus 3500 is Samsung's response to what it says is the popularity of the WEP870, which is one of the company's first mono headsets that could convert into a stereo headset with the addition of a lanyard.

BlueAnt just upped the ante in the Bluetooth headset wars with the BlueAnt T1, which it announced prior to the start of CTIA 2010. The headset promises a few upgrades over the BlueAnt Q1, like Wind Armour Technology, which promises to deliver clear audio in wind speeds up to 22 miles per hour.

Though it feels like I just got off the plane from Europe and Mobile World Congress--and claimed my broken suitcase, thank you very much, Lufthansa--it's time to board another flight to another cell phone trade show. Next week, the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) holds its spring wireless bash in Las Vegas. It's the larger of the industry association's two annual events and we're expecting to be busy chasing news. As we approach another CTIA, it's time to travel back a year ago to the wireless extravaganza that was CTIA 2009. Back then, we named two phones, one accessory, and one software title as the top products from that show. Now that they've had several months to face consumers, we're comparing our initial impressions with our final assessments.

As CTIA 2009 closes, so does the busy cell phone trade show season that began three months ago at CES. And now that the CNET crew has left Las Vegas for San Francisco and New York City, we've had a chance to reflect on what CTIA gave us. I'll describe the highlights in detail below, but be sure to check out our CTIA videos and CTIA photo galleries. We also picked our favorite products for the Best of CTIA.

A snoozer of a show Though there were plenty of new phones to handle, CTIA was rather quiet. Sure, the torpid economy is a likely culprit, but CTIA has a bigger strike against it. Since it follows the two much bigger blowouts of CES and the GSMA World Congress, CTIA just can't offer the same level of news.

It's not really CTIA's fault--after all, a U.S.-focused show can't be expected to compete with global events--but I'm not the first to suggest that CTIA should switch its schedule to later in the year. But as I said, there was plenty to report.

Getting the message If there was one theme at CTIA 2009, it was the messaging phone. A total of five new models made their first appearance in Las Vegas, with Samsung and AT&T leading the way.

On the Monday before the show, Sammy and AT&T unveiled the Samsung Impression and the Samsung Magnet. Both offer full QWERTY keyboards on a different theme. While the Magnet offers minimal features and a simple design, the Impression has a comfortable slider design, a brilliant display, and mid-range multimedia. It made such an impression on us that we picked it as our top phone of the show. … Read more
