LAS VEGAS -- Sony is promoting 4K resolution as hard as anyone, from its TVs to its studios, to its video distribution service. At CES 2014, the company's TV lineup reflects the major part 4K plays in its plans.

Welcome to the land of high-definition diminishing returns, also known as 4K television.
Or at least that's one way of looking at the myriad new ultra-high-definition displays that all the big names and even some lesser-known companies are introducing this week at CES.
