Mobile Outlook.com, Hotmail users hit by access troubles

An undetermined number of mobile users of Microsoft's Hotmail and Outlook.com have been unable to access the service for the past several days.

The problem is affecting iPhone, iPad, and Android phone users, according to posts on the Microsoft Answers forum. It also, according to some, is affecting some Windows Phone and Surface RT users, as well.

The problem seems to stem from issues with Exchange ActiveSync, the Microsoft protocol for accessing Exchange Server natively from mobile devices.

On January 10, I asked Microsoft for an update on the issue, which still seems only partially resolved. A representative … Read more

It looks great and works well in a pinch, but if you prefer app-based access, you can use the official Hotmail app.

The Hotmail app isn't limited to just Hotmail accounts. Instead of typing in a Hotmail address during setup, type in your Outlook.com e-mail address and password. If you have multiple Outlook.com … Read more

Add an alias To add a new alias to your primary Outlook.com account, click on the gears icon in the upper right-hand corner and select "More mail settings." Under the "Manage your account" section, select "… Read more
