Microsoft has kicked off 2013 with a few helpful additions to your SkyDrive Web site.
As detailed in yesterday's Inside SkyDrive blog, you can now move files within SkyDrive to other folders by dragging and dropping them to a specific location on the breadcrumb bar.
For example, to move a file from your Documents subfolder to the root of your SkyDrive storage, simply drag the file onto the SkyDrive breadcrumb with your name. Previously, you'd have to right-click on a file, select the Move to command, and then choose a target folder in order to move it.

Angry Birds Star Wars My wife and I love to play Angry Birds, and the Star Wars edition is a great take on the familiar franchise. This app could've easily taken a turn to the dark side. But Rovio knew just how to pair its birds and piggies with the classic Star Wars characters and settings that fans know and love. The challenging … Read more
Don't you hate waiting for the drinks cart to slowly make its way through economy class to your seat? This gadget might speed things up a bit.
SkyTender isn't quite the robot bartender that some are making it out to be, but as an automated drinks dispenser it could make flying slightly less hellish than it nearly always is.
This beverage trolley can whip up more than 30 different drinks, including soft drinks, coffee, wine, and cocktails, at the touch of a button or two.
Regular trolleys can be upgraded to SkyTenders with the installation of modular drinks … Read more
Microsoft and Apple are fighting a behind-the-scenes battle over App Store revenue sharing, The Next Web reports.
Apple is currently blocking any Microsoft SkyDrive updates in its App Store until the software giant agrees to share revenue generated through its application, the site reports, citing sources who claim to have knowledge of the disagreement.
Microsoft currently offers its SkyDrive storage app to iOS users. The company rolled out the ability for users to purchase more storage from within the application. However, upon doing so, Microsoft decided that it wouldn't share 30 percent of the revenue generated through those transactions … Read more
Skype keeps proving useful for more than just Internet phone calls and video chat. Such as? Well, Scand's free SkyRemote lets Skype users remotely view and control other Skype users' desktops, and vice versa (much like a VPN) as long as both use Skype and have SkyRemote installed. It's not a Skype Extra but a standalone Windows program. With your permission, SkyRemote accesses Skype's contact information and app-to-app commands. SkyRemote also enables remote access to the Clipboard and other Windows features. What else? How about conferencing, lossless graphics codecs that give the best possible picture with the … Read more
As a pain-in-the-cache, searching archived e-mail messages has nothing on Skype's chat history and call logs. Scand's SkyHistory is a free Windows program that lets you view, manage, search, and save your Skype chat and call logs independent of your Skype client and settings. SkyHistory collects and stores all of your Skype data in a single database on your system's hard drive, ideally with a portable USB drive as backup. Its advanced searching, filtering, and bookmarking capabilities let you exclude senders whose messages you don't want to save (like spammers) and search for single messages or … Read more
A 220-story Sky City tower in the Chinese city of Changsha could take the crown as the world's tallest skyscraper next March with an astounding height of 2,749 feet, edging out the mega Burj Khalifa that currently stands 2,722 feet over Dubai.
What makes the 11-million-square-foot Sky City so astonishing isn't its height or its appearance but rather the three-month construction plan to create the building that kicks off at the end of the year. Broad Group -- the company responsible for assembling the skyscraper -- plans to achieve these insane building speeds by using 95 percent prefabricated modular pieces that are sort of similar to a giant Lego set to construct the building. … Read more
Better mobile support and more desktop options give SkyDrive users a bit of a boost today, as Microsoft updates its cloud storage service.
The desktop improvements include the ability to share SkyDrive files with one click from Windows 8's File Explorer (also known as Windows Explorer in previous versions of Windows,) and selectively sync folders from a Windows or Mac. This can help keep small-drive devices from filing up too quickly.
Android and Windows Phone apps have been updated, too, so that you can now more easily browse files in your SkyDrive. You'll also be able to control … Read more
After a SkyDrive debacle over the weekend, which caused Opera users to be blocked from the cloud storage service, Microsoft has said it's working quickly to fix the problem.
The problem began when Opera, which is a Web browser, received a bug report showing that Microsoft's cloud storage service froze out all users when it was being loaded. Instead of being able to see their saved files and photos, users could only see millions of characters of code.
After some poking around, Opera's Hallvord Steen realized that the problem was "some strange bug in the Microsoft … Read more
