iPhone 5 unboxing photos leak out ahead of launch

The iPhone 5 doesn't hit stores until this Friday, though photos of its insides have already hit the Web.

The insides of the box it comes in, that is.

Boy Genius Report today posted just three photos of Apple's latest iPhone model getting unboxed, a time-honored gadget tradition.

Inside are few surprises -- short of just how much space Apple's EarPods and their carrying case take up compared with the USB wall plug and new USB-to-Lightning cable. Apple released the EarPods as a standalone product last week, and now includes them as a standard accessory on the … Read more

Episode 14: HTC One X vs iPhone in a midair Road Test

This week, you finally get to see the results of my high-flying Road Test of the HTC One X! I actually jumped out of a helicopter because we were so sure that this HTC One X commercial, touting its camera features to such an extent that it could be used in a midair fashion shoot, was a ridiculous put-on. You'll see in the segment whether I managed to get the shot, and whether the phone's camera and features performed as advertised.

Special thanks to the folks at GoPro, who helped us set up this shoot and loaned us … Read more

Episode 3: Where Google has more money than sense

The debate about "unboxing" rages on, so in this week's Always On episode, I actually get down to using a pocket knife to open up the new Google Nexus 7 and Nexus Q. And I try to bring back some of that old Molly snark so many of you have been asking for. Sometimes it's hard to put together a whole show and then remember to write in the personality! I'm working on it, though.

I had a pretty great time running around Google I/O, mainly because of the food, and of course, the … Read more

Unboxing meets Pinterest meets the iPad

With the launch of every Apple product comes the excitement and drama of the unboxing. It's like waking up on Christmas morning and ripping, carefully, the wrapping off presents and reverently exploring the contents, documenting every step in the process with a video or still camera to share the experience with the world via social networks.

Today, fresh from taking receipt of their new iPads, regular users and professional reviewers across America, and other parts of the world, shared their unboxing experiences. The new, fastest-growing network Pinterest (see Sree Sreenivasan's take on the service), has become a home … Read more

Unboxing 'Star Wars: The Complete Saga' on Blu-ray

At last, the very long-awaited "Star Wars" Blu-ray box set has arrived in stores. Its arrival hasn't come without gripes: the newly remastered films feature even more controversial sound edits and visual tweaks, further distancing the classic Episodes IV-VI from their original '70s and '80s counterparts.

Since the box set doesn't include versions of the untouched original theatrical releases, if you want to enjoy any of the "Star Wars" movies in full HD, this is the set you'll turn to. It'll be a reference set for many, and undoubtedly a must-have Blu-ray. So, what sort of packaging comes with such high aspirations? … Read more

White iPhone 4 unboxed and tested in Italy

Italian technology blog iSpazio has kicked off what is sure to be the first of many tests of the newest iPhone release from Apple--the white iPhone 4. The blog ran tests on the proximity sensor as well as the infamous attenuation problems suffered by the AT&T iPhone 4 and the Verizon iPhone 4.

The delay in the availability of the white iPhone 4 has been largely attributed to problems with the white paint. Specifically, the way the paint was interacting with Apple's new glass technology was causing problems with the proximity sensor and allowing light leakage when … Read more

Samsung Series 9 is here: Unboxing, hands-on

Updated at 12:22 p.m. with latest impressions and comparison pics with the MacBook Air.

Well, it's finally arrived at CNET's offices: the Samsung Series 9 laptop showed up on our doorstep in a smooth black box with metal trim.

Samsung's competitor to the superthin MacBook Air has been a heavily talked-about laptop ever since its debut at CES 2011. In person, it's even better-looking than we remembered. Cool brushed black metal on the outside and curved lines give way to a sleek black interior, like a black MacBook Air. It's extremely thin--easily one … Read more
