T-Mobile's iPhone 5 ad is a low-budget revolution

It takes a revolution to effect a revolution.

This is the modest hope of T-Mobile, as it attempts to wean the American public off two-year plans.

In order to introduce the iPhone 5 to its mold-breaking community, the company has decided to keep it fairly simple.

Yes, it's co-opting the revolution for its own purposes.… Read more

Ravid Video Messenger 2.5.4 Review

In theory, a video messenger that lets you easily share your videos with friends seems to be a pretty useful application. While Ravid Video Messenger follows this model, there are other available applications already offering this option that perform much better.

The application loads quickly and the user interface offers a clean and modern design. Ravid Video Messenger is brightly colored and has sharp, high contrast text. It is easy to read and very intuitive in its use. A short registration is all that is required to begin sharing videos. Ravid Video Messenger allows the user to take videos with … Read more

Photo Effects Pro 1.5 Review

Since most Android devices have a camera, it is only natural that photo- editing applications are in high demand. While the market is full of programs trying to help users enhance or alter their images, most of them don't allow you to edit the photos but simply apply a visual effect filter over them. Photo Effects Pro falls into this category as well, but its ease of use will appeal to the casual user.

The installation of Photo Effects Pro is extremely easy, requiring no advanced settings or registration. This app is obviously designed to be simple and easy … Read more

Office Plus 5.2 Review

The iPhone and iPad are increasingly becoming a part of many people's everyday work tools. However, there are very few built-in tools for editing documents and the iWork applications are not very compatible with Microsoft Office, which is used by more than 80 percent of offices and their workers. So a third-party app is needed, and Office Plus touts itself as one of the most popular. But is it a good replacement for iWork or other office suites?

When you first open Office Plus, it isn't immediately obvious what you should do, a major issue for a lot … Read more

Intel releases Web-based app programming kit

Intel has released its first version of Web-based programming tools to help developers make mobile apps for Android and iOS.

The free software, called Intel XDK, isn't brand new. It's a rebadged version of the AppMobi software that Intel acquired in February. XDK lets people create software that uses the so-called HTML5 foundation, a collection of standards designed to advance the Web beyond static documents toward dynamic applications, then convert those apps so they can be used on mobile devices.

Intel announced the XDK release at its Intel Developer Forum show in Beijing this week. The software is … Read more

T-Mobile's iPhone 5 will differ from the pack

At long last, T-Mobile announced that it will carry its own iPhone 5, in addition to letting you bring over an unlocked iPhone 5 from another carrier, like from AT&T.

Yet, when T-Mobile's own iPhone hits stores on April 12, it'll be a slightly different model and experience compared with other carriers. Here's what's altered.

iPlayBook Hockey Free 5.018 Review

If you've ever seen a hockey coach's playbook, you know that he's carrying around a lot of plays and notes on a relatively unsecure format -- paper. For that reason, there have been multiple attempts to take playbooks into the 21st century with a digital format. One of the most recent such attempts is iPlayBook Hockey Free. With numerous menus, pre-designed plays, recording features, and playback and share buttons, iPlayBook is a solid playbook app for the iPad, even if it is a little cluttered.

The app, itself, is straightforward, but the interface does have a lot … Read more

iPad 5 may shed thickness by trimming LEDs

The iPad 5 might jettison grams and millimeters via a redesigned LED backlight apparatus, according to NPD DisplaySearch.

"It's likely that part of the thinner/lighter design will be reducing the size of the LED backlight, partly by making the display more efficient and partly by using more efficient LEDs," said Paul Semenza, an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch, in an e-mail to CNET.

He said he also expects other modifications to reduce thickness. "The other significant change that we feel is likely is a shift to a film-based touch sensor," Semenza said.

It's still … Read more
