LG Optimus 4X HD shows up at CTIA

NEW ORLEANS--Today, I caught a glimpse of CTIA 2012 one day earlier than most and roamed around the show floor before its set to kick off tomorrow.

Among all the construction and chaos, as companies in the mobile phone industry scurried to finish building their booths, I came across LG's splice of convention real estate.

Among its TVs and other electronics, display kiosks for LG's Optimus 4X HD, Optimus Vu, and 3D Max were also set up.

These three devices were already unveiled in late February's MWC, but none of them had carrier's attached to them. … Read more

NEW ORLEANS--In addition to the Droid Incredible 4G LTE that HTC just announced at CTIA, the phone maker will also show off its HTC One V, an Android smartphone first introduced at Mobile World Congress.

Although the One V is the most entry-level of the HTC One phones, it fits into the family uniformities like Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the operating system, the HTC Sense 4.0 interface, and HTC's ImageSense camera software, which works with HTC's image-processing chip to take photos one after the other in the blink of an eye.… Read more

NEW ORLEANS--HTC announced a 4G LTE updated Droid Incredible for Verizon Wireless, which looks very similar to the HTC One S offered on T-Mobile USA.

Done. In the books. No more Samsung Galaxy S III rumors or leaks to worry about ever again.

Though Android fans in the United States still have to guess about a release date, at least we know what Samsung has been working on for the past few months. So was it all worth it? At first blush, I say the answer is a resounding yes.

If you haven't had the chance to watch the Unpacked press conference yet, I encourage you to do so. What you'll find is roughly an hour of what makes the Galaxy S III so special and how it might change Android. If this product unveiling is any indication, Samsung understands that the future of the operating system isn't just about specifications. … Read more

CTIA 2012: A later date spells change

CNET is headed to New Orleans next week, home to CTIA 2012, the annual springtime congregation of cell phone makers, wireless carriers, and all manner of players in the cell phone industry.

This year, two factors signal change. First, the show is later in the calendar than ever before, presumably moved back to give phone manufacturers and others time to prep products and news after CES in January and Mobile World Congress the month after that.

Second, it's unclear if pushing back the date has encouraged the typical handset newsmaker headlines. Usually, the invitations to press events are stacked … Read more
