The world of night vision has come a long way since the clunky, Vietnam-era starlight scopes, but it's still a monochromatic green. Tenebraex Corp. aims to fix that with a night vision filter that tricks your brain into seeing objects in different colors, The Boston Globe reported.

The ColorPath (Color Capable Night Vision Device) is mechanical, not computer based, which makes it more temperature resistant, light weight and power frugal, according to the manufacturer.

Attention Seattle-based readers: you now have access to the alpha test version of Down2Night, a text-messaging service that keeps you up-to-date on what's happening after dark. Seattle's the first city that this just-launched service covers, but it's hoping to expand soon.

It actually sounds like a pretty cool idea. Cingular customers get more cowbell

When Saturday Night Live premiered in the '70s, I bet its fans never imagined they'd be able to watch clips of the late-night sketch comedy show on their phones. But now, thanks to a deal between SNL parent NBC Universal, Broadway Video Entertainment, and Cingular Wireless, it's happening. The partnership, announced Tuesday, brings various forms of SNL media content, including original mobile-only programming, to Cingular's phones.

An underwater monitor--but why?

You've got to wonder what DHS investigators think of stuff like this. After all, it's not as if there are an overwhelming number of practical consumer applications for an underwater monitor kit like this one, which we saw on Red Ferret.

Manufactured in China, the "full-set" kit apparently includes a 7-inch LCD, a five-hour battery and a diving camera with night-vision range of 9 to 15 feet. The equipment can all be conveniently stored in a metal carrying case that--we hope--would be subject to careful inspection near ports, bridges or any other appropriate locations.
