Nokia unveils new mobile financial service

Mobile phone maker Nokia on Wednesday announced the launch of a financial service called Nokia Money, designed to let consumers pay bills and merchants and send money to friends and family using their cell phones.

Nokia believes the service will help people in the U.S. and in emerging markets who are not served by banks or other traditional financial outlets.

"In many countries, mobile phone ownership significantly exceeds bank account usage, suggesting that many mobile phone users have very limited or no access to basic financial services," said Mary McDowell, Nokia's chief development officer.

Obfuscate keylogging

If you're worried about surreptitious key-logging software recording your every keystroke, Keystroke Interference could be the handy security utility you've been looking for. Instead of trying to detect or disable keyloggers, it interferes with what they record as your keystrokes, inserting a random sequence of additional characters based on a proprietary algorithm.

Keystroke Interference has no interface, and is visible only as an icon in your system tray and Start menu. To get it to run at start-up, you must manually place it in your Startup folder. It also offers no configurable options. However, we didn't notice … Read more

Clampi Trojan stealing online bank data from consumers and businesses

LAS VEGAS--Hundreds of thousands of Windows computers are believed to be infected with a Trojan called "Clampi" that has been stealing banking and other log-in credentials from compromised PCs since 2007, a security researcher said on the eve of the Black Hat security conference.

Clampi, also known as Ligats, Ilomo, or Rscan, infects computers in drive-by downloads when people visit Web sites hosting malicious code that exploits vulnerabilities in browser plug-ins Flash and ActiveX, said Joe Stewart, director of malware research for the Counter Threat Unit of SecureWorks.

When the infected computer is used to access a targeted … Read more

Woman twitters her way through a bank heist

What would you do if a bank you were standing in were to be held up?

Would your loins twitch a little? Would your palms pour water like a fountain at the Bellagio?

Or would you whip out your BlackBerry and twitter?

I only ask because Tuesday, according to the Associated Press, Annemarie Dooling was in an HSBC bank in Manhattan when someone decided to hold it up.

Perhaps it was something to do with the fact that on her Twitter feed she describes herself as "Jet setting, Manhattan drinking, design obsessed sicko; producer for a talk show website&… Read more
