Record more HD shows with DVR Xpander

With the proliferation of TV programming delivered in high definition, you may find your DVR quickly runs out of storage space. That's because HD content takes about 10GB per hour, which is roughly 10 times the amount of space required by non-HD content.

Now you have a choice: either open up your DVR and install a new, bigger hard drive, or get external storage for your recordings. The latter, though less fun, is much more convenient and safe.

And it got even more convenient on Thursday, as Apricorn just announced its new external-storage solution for DVRs called the DVR Xpander. … Read more

The TiVo beta should be available on Kwiry Wednesday. Here's how it's supposed … Read more

The Supreme Court has declined to hear what could be a watershed copyright case that has the potential to make it easier for people to record and watch their favorite movies and TV shows at home.

On Monday, the Supreme Court asked the U.S. Department of Justice to look at a case involving a new service proposed by Cablevision that allows people to record broadcast TV shows and movies on a digital video recorder that sits in Cablevision'… Read more

EchoStar SlingLoaded HD DVR 922 combines Slingbox and DVR into one super set-top box

We're huge fans of the Slingbox, which lets you access your home TV from any broadband-connected PC and many models of 3G smartphones. But the boxes have always had a fundamental problem of monopolizing the host video source (cable/satellite box or DVR); if you access your Slingbox remotely and somebody happens to be watching the home TV, both of you are forced to watch the same program.

That's just one problem that the new EchoStar SlingLoaded HD DVR 922 fixes. The "SlingLoaded" moniker basically means that it's got a Slingbox built-in. That, along with … Read more
