Verizon subscribers unable to activate the LTE version of the Google Nexus 7 may just have to be patient a while longer.
Owners of the new tablet who tried to activate it on Verizon this week ran into a roadblock. The carrier doesn't support the device for activation even though the Nexus 7 is technically compatible with its 4G LTE network.
Verizon also managed to fan the flames by telling disgruntled Nexus 7 owner and tech blogger Jeff Jarvis via Twitter: "I'm excited you got your Nexus 7 but not all LTE tablets are created equal. It'… Read more
Consider this more fuel for the wireless ad wars.
Wireless testing firm RootMetrics said AT&T edged out Verizon Wireless in the early results of its latest study, which were made available to CNET. It's a surprise call because Root had routinely crowned Verizon as the top carrier.
The study was based on a combination of speed and reliability. Verizon has long held a leadership position in reliability and continues to do so in the most recent results. But AT&T has narrowed the gap considerably, which allows its speed advantage to put it over the top. … Read more
AT&T no-contract brand Aio Wireless is opening up its digital doors to everyone, the newbie carrier announced on Thursday.
That means any US customer can browse and purchase phones from Aio's lineup regardless of their geographic footprint. As a startup, Aio's brand initially served a few communities in Florida, Georgia, and Texas -- both online and in-store.
Although Aio continues to establish retail stores in these southern states (the company just unlocked a new one in Dallas), a spokesperson told CNET that the carrier can now handle a higher volume of request to port phone numbers … Read more

Here's one trick the iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C for Verizon Wireless and Sprint still won't be able to pull off: the ability to simultaneously browse the Internet and make a phone call over the cellular network.
That's according to Apple, which confirmed the limitation a day after unveiling its latest flagship smartphone.
That the new iPhones won't be able to juggle voice and data isn't a surprise -- it's been a lingering drawback for all previous iPhones that ran on Verizon and Sprint's network. Verizon and Sprint's phones run on a … Read more
Regular readers of this blog may have noticed I'm not a big fan of any type of wireless speaker, and more specifically I have no love for Bluetooth or AirPlay speakers. For me the sound compromises that come with compact size and wireless technology are hard to swallow. I have less of a grudge against the smaller, under-$200 models; they produce "good enough" sound, but the more expensive models' sound pales next to a pair of wired Adam Audio, Audioengine, or Emotiva self-powered speakers.
AT&T announced Tuesday that it had completed its $1.9 billion acquisition of wireless spectrum from Verizon Wireless, which it plans to use to strengthen its 4G LTE coverage.
More than seven months after the deal was sealed in January, AT&T announced today that it had acquired 39 licenses for spectrum it will use to deliver wireless access to 42 million people in 18 states. The spectrum, part of Verizon's 700MHz B block, which it isn't using itself, will be used by AT&T to further augment its 4G LTE deployment as it … Read more
