More Dell laptop leaks

It was only last week that we saw details on Dell's fancy new 13-inch XPS laptop leaked. If Dell has one new laptop coming out, surely they must have more, right?

Apparently the entire Inspiron line is getting a major makeover, according to the scuttlebutt on French Dell fan site (seriously) LesDelliens.com.

The folks over at Engadget have helpfully grabbed some of the details and translated the pages via Babelfish. The current Inspiron 1505 and 1705 will be replaced by the 1520, 1521, 1720, and 1721, plus a new 14-inch 1420.

This model is the first laptop on the market worldwide to win the highest, gold rating from EPEAT, which measures energy-efficiency and green design elements in electronics.

The acronym stands for Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool. When that program launched last year, … Read more

Report: No more Dell-branded TVs

Dell will stop selling liquid crystal display TVs under its own brand name, according to Bloomberg.

Citing anonymous sources, the report says Dell will cease selling its own TVs this month to focus more on the PC business, but will continue to offer other brands of televisions.

Dell was dismissive of the Bloomberg report. "We don't speculate on what we're doing down the road," said company spokesman Bob Pearson. He added that nothing had changed since Dell announced in February that it would be selling Sony LCDs in 40- to 46-inch sizes on its Web site, … Read more

Dell slips up with Linux PC warranty options

Last weekend, Dell inadvertently removed the option to purchase extended warranties for its new Ubuntu Linux PCs, but the company said the option will be back Tuesday.

Any customers who ordered a Dell Ubuntu system when the extended warranties weren't available will have the option of upgrading at the original price, Dell said. … Read more

After taking the No. 3 slot in worldwide notebook sales from Toshiba in the fourth quarter of 2006, Acer has taken even more ground, this time from Lenovo. The Chinese computer maker is now 0.4 percent points behind Acer in worldwide computer market share.

Report: Evidence suggests HP spied on Dell

update A magazine report published Tuesday indicates that Hewlett-Packard engaged in corporate espionage and spied on at least one of its own executives prior to the company's controversial probe into a boardroom leak last year.

Citing unnamed sources, Fortune magazine reported that "evidence suggests" HP obtained the phone records of Karl Kamb Jr., a former HP vice president, who is being sued by HP for allegedly stealing company trade secrets. The magazine said it also found information that supported some of the claims Kamb made in a countersuit filed in January: the company paid a former Dell … Read more
