BlackBerry confirmed on Wednesday that its messenger service would come to Android and iOS this weekend.
A report had BBM coming to Android on Friday and iOS on Saturday. It turns out, it was a day off. The Android version will come on Saturday, while the iOS version hits the App Store on Sunday.
BBM was previously exclusive to BlackBerry users, and is much loved by the BlackBerry faithful. But by expanding it across platforms, BlackBerry is looking to take over the likes of WhatsApp, which has garnered more than 300 million users.

BlackBerry may cut up to 40 percent of its workforce, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The company will look to cut across different departments and the trimming may occur in different phases, the Journal reported, citing anonymous sources. BlackBerry had 12,700 employees as of March.
The company declined to comment specifically on the report.

BlackBerry Messenger is reportedly set to make its debut on Android this Friday, and become available on Apple's App Store as soon as Saturday, according to BlackBerry news site CrackBerry.

Alex Kinsella, a longtime mobile manager at BlackBerry, Tweeted today that the company submitted the first-ever iOS version of its communicator to Apple two weeks ago.
