CNET TV: 10 Firefox keyboard shortcuts

Which gives you faster browsing in Firefox, the keyboard or the mouse?

The keyboard, of course. Every time you lift your fingers to open a new page or switch tabs, you lose seconds of productivity time.

Commit some of CNET Executive Editor Tom Merritt's tips to memory, however, and that precious time can become yours again.

Control Tab is my favorite shortcut. Which is yours?

Apple issues QuickTime update for new MacBooks

Apple rolled out a QuickTime update Tuesday night that should alleviate some of the concern over the addition of some copy-protection technology to the new MacBooks.

Apple customers who bought one of the company's new MacBooks or MacBook Pros introduced in October were annoyed to discover that the Mini DisplayPort on those systems uses a copy-protection technology called HDCP. That technology is supposed to prevent those owners from playing HD movies purchased from the iTunes store on external projectors that don't also support HDCP technology. But several owners reported that standard-definition movies were also declared off-limits by their … Read more

Blip.tv adds iPhone support for mobile viewing

Video host Blip.tv has just launched support for iPhones letting mobile users view the entirety of its video collection on the go. Like visiting the site on your computer, you can both browse and search through Blip's videos and get them to play without having to download a special application.

As a result of the upgrade, Blip.tv's embed code can now point iPhone users directly to the .m4v QuickTime stream while still delivering the Flash version to users with it installed. Unfortunately this does not carry over to previously embedded Flash-based Blip.tv videos. Visiting an earlier postRead more

Manual food processor for space-challenged kitchens

Sometimes it is simpler to think small. The size of my kitchen necessitates a certain amount of nimbleness to achieve delicious results when cooking. Everything must be laid out and a plan of attack formulated. Not thinking ahead sets up a potential domino disaster if I forget to check something off the list. For example, if I forget to chop the celery, plates and knives will have to be scattered and cleared to backtrack a few steps. The potential for burning whatever is on the stove at the time is too great. It is better to embrace the quirkiness of … Read more

Slick data-visualizer launched for QuickBooks users

Intuit is announcing on Monday a Flash-based Web service that companies can use to geographically visualize their customer data and business activity.

Customer Explorer is being unveiled at this week's Adobe Max conference in San Francisco. Customer Explorer, available at the Intuit Workplace, imports QuickBooks data and overlays it on a live map.

Users can view where their customers are clustering or which regions generate the most revenue. They can also generate time slices of the data, much like a moving weather map, to see how their business has been evolving. And they can overlay regional demographic information, such … Read more

Lenovo announces Netbook with Splashtop instant-on technology

Lenovo will soon release a second version of its IdeaPad S10 Netbook, which it will sell to schools. The IdeaPad S10e will be sold through Lenovo's Government & Education channel and is scheduled to start shipping on November 25. When it does, it will be the first Netbook to feature instant-on software that will let you access various apps without first booting to Windows.

The S10e will feature DeviceVM's Splashtop app, which Asus offers on some of its laptops (but, curiously, not on any of its Eee PC Netbooks). Lenovo dubs Splashtop QuickStart for its Netbook and will … Read more

Voice recording quietly comes to Touch 2G

What a difference a month makes. In September, we couldn't find a single voice-recording app for the iPhone that would work with the headset input included on the second-generation iPod Touch. I took a look around the iTunes App Store today and found that seven of of the 13-plus iPhone voice-memo apps now list themselves as compatible with the second-generation iPod Touch. Here's the list, so far:
