Cingular gets Razr V3xx

Razr fans (yes, there are still a lot of them) can rejoice again as Cingular picks up the Motorola Razr V3xx. Though it resembles Cingular's original Razr V3 (except for the darker color), the V3xx is compatible with Cingular's growing 3.5G HSDPA network. Cingular Video support is also included, and the phone sports a dedicated Cingular TV button in the navigation array. Other features are standard for the Razr series. You'll find Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and a digital music player. Though the phone has been shipped to Cingular, Motorola said it's still not available in … Read more

Samsung shows a new turn on thin phones

At CES Samsung showed off a quirky cell phone that takes "thin" to a whole level. It's not thin from the side like the Motorola Razr, but rather it's exceptionally slim when measured across its front face. The GSM Samsung SGH-X830 measures about an inch wide and sports a swivel form factor in a gallery of colors, including black, green, red and blue. Features are impressive for such a small phone. Inside is a 2-megapixel camera, a digital music player, multiformat video support, 1GB of flash memory, stereo Bluetooth, a 65,536-color display and USB 2.… Read more

Motorola Q Pro: same hardware, new software

Without much fanfare or hoopla, Motorola quietly (so quiet that even some of the Moto staff didn't know the release went out) announced yesterday the official availability of the Motorola Q Pro. This corporate-centric version of the Q essentially keeps the same hardware (although now cloaked in black) as the original Q but adds some key software solutions for business users, including the DataViz Documents to Go suite for viewing and editing Microsoft Office documents, Motorola's Mobile Security Platform with VPN support, a firewall, intrusion detection, and data encryption. In addition, the Motorola Q Pro will come packaged … Read more

Yahoo Go for Mobile comes to Nokia, Motorola phones

Yahoo addicts can now get a suite of their favorite applications on select Nokia and Motorola phones with Yahoo Go for Mobile 2.0. The upgraded service offers a selection of new and improved services, including instant messaging, photo sharing, maps, and directory information, and a reinvented mobile search called OneSearch.

Motorola will debut the service on its Motorola Razr Maxx and the Razr V3xx. Both are high-end Razr models introduced in the last year. Nokia is taking a wider approach by adding Go for Mobile 2.0 to its line of series 40 devices, including the Nokia 6103, 6131, … Read more

Moto's mobile music

Motorola today announced a new music service that partners with Microsoft and Warner Music Group to bring your favorite tunes to select Motorola handsets. MotoMusic eventually will allow users to download music over 3G networks and organize it on their phones with other music-related content. The service will debut initially on the Motorola Rizr, the company's spiffy slider handset based on the Motorola Rizr line and the Linux-based Motorola Ming, aka the A1200.

The Rizr will be compatible with Microsoft Windows Media Player subscription stores. Users will be able to sync Media Player files between their phones and their … Read more

Motorola's place-shifting set-top: Follow Me TV

Motorola's Follow Me TV feature for its DVR set-top boxes lets users choose which TV to watch a recorded TV show on.

Instead of keeping content stored on only that TV, Follow Me TV lets users bring TV with them from room to room. Any recorded show is aggregated and made available on any TV on the network. In addition to TV programs, music and photos can also follow to any TV, and the content can also be sent to portable devices.

Or, as Motorola CEO Ed Zander demonstrated for the audience here at CES 2007, you can pause … Read more

Verizon to get Motorola Slvr L7c

Though Verizon Wireless has yet to announce officially that it will start offering the Motorola Slvr L7c, Motorola demonstrated such a phone this evening at a CES press event. Motorola reps declined to comment, but it's clear Verizon will join Sprint in offering the candy bar version of Moto's slim handset line. And in any case, bloggers have sighted the Slvr L7c on the carrier's prerelease Web site. Clad in silver, Verizon's Slvr L7c will be similar to both Sprint's model and the GSM Slvr L7 for Cingular. Features should include a VGA camera, Bluetooth, … Read more

Moto Q headed for Sprint, but where's the beef?

Today, Sprint announced the addition of the Motorola Q to its lineup, with availability starting later this month through its business channels and online and then everywhere in mid-February. The Sprint-branded Q is dressed in a sexy-cool charcoal-gray casing and supports the carrier's On Demand and NFL Mobile services, but beneath the surface, Sprint really didn't beef up the Windows Mobile smart phone with any worthy upgrades. It won't even work with Sprint TV, which would have been great considering the Q's nice screen. Le sigh. Even more bad news, at Laptop Magazine, they got their … Read more

The Krzr fires it up

When Bono and his buddies came up with the Red campaign a while back to promote AIDS awareness in Africa, I was delighted--not only because of the charity involved, but also because red is my favorite color. I wish more gadgets came in red. It does appear that the savvy folks over at Motorola have answered my call, with a brand-new crimson edition of the Motorola Krzr that they have dubbed the Krzr Fire. It is sadly available only in Korea for now, but it would be quite lovely if it were available here too.

Black Moto Q bringing sexy back to Verizon, sort of

Today, Verizon Wireless introduced an all-black version of the Motorola Q, and while it's all sexy cool on the outside, it's pretty much the same on the inside. However, the Windows Mobile smart phone is said to ship with the second software update, which should help improve battery life and fix other bugs. Also, this version features a rubberized casing that's black all the way through (via Qusers.com), so scratches shouldn't be too revealing. You'll have to pay a little more for the privilege of carrying the Moto Q black, as pricing starts at $… Read more
