We all survived the latest Apple iPad announcement and waded through the analysis aftermath. The result is a new, lighter-weight iPad Air and a refreshed iPad Mini Retina that finally brings a higher-end display to the smaller device. But iPads aren't the only tablets in the world. The competitors have been hanging out, waiting for the next round of the battle to begin.… Read more
The original iPad Mini has been given a space gray paint job to match the new Retina Mini, and now that repainted model seems to be hitting Apple Stores.
Some larger Apple Stores apparently had the space gray version of last year's model in stock early Thursday, according to AppleInsider. But those initial supplies quickly sold out. Sources told 9to5Mac that the tablet popped up at several Apple stores, though not all of them, and advised interested customers to call their local store to check on availability.

You'd probably like to know if it's actually useful in practical day-by-day applications or if it's merely a gimmick. Even if it is useful, are these devices worth the extra cost -- at $299 with a two-year contract for the Note 3, and $550 for the Wi-Fi Note 10.1 (Apple's Wi-Fi iPad Air costs $500)?
After using them both for a month, I think that they are … Read more
The Taiwan Fair Trade Commission launched an investigation in April into allegations that Samsung was paying students to post negative online comments about HTC devices. At the same time, Samsung allegedly paid the students to recommend Samsung cell phones. The commission said that this type of behavior is akin to false advertising.
Along with fining Samsung, the commission also fined two Taiwanese trading companies it claims were responsible for the Internet campaign.

Microsoft has cut the price of its Surface Pro now that its Surface 2 devices have hit store shelves.
Customers who head over to the Microsoft Store on Thursday will find that the first-generation 64GB Surface Pro now costs $699. The 128GB option will set customers back $799. Both devices were previously $100 more expensive.
This isn't the first $100 price cut for the devices. In August, Microsoft trimmed Surface Pro prices from the earlier $899 for the 64GB version and $999 for the 128GB option. That move came after tepid sales continued to cause trouble for the Surface … Read more
It's time to start talking about the iPad 6.
Just kidding. While the iPad rumor mill stops to catch its breath for a second, I'll round up everything we got -- and maybe more importantly, what we didn't get -- at the Apple event on Tuesday.
Also this week, LG filed for some Chrome trademarks, which has me wondering whether we'll see a Chromebook from LG soon, and Microsoft could throw its hat into the smartglasses ring, which I wouldn't really mind.
Thanks for watching!
Editors' note: I mistakenly said that the "new iPad&… Read more

I was aiming to buy this year's iPad to replace my nearly 3-year-old iPad 2. But after seeing the new iPad, I've put those plans on hold.

It's also faster, thanks to the new 64-bit A7 processor. The iSight camera has been beefed up to 5MP as well.
The iPad Air also offers greater performance, a Retina Display, Siri, and several other improvements.
So, why … Read more
Apple just missed a big opportunity when it came to the pricing on its new iPad Mini.
The Cupertino, Calif., company on Tuesday unveiled its newest tablets, the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display, both with improved specs and features. It also will offer the older versions of those devices at lower prices, continuing its trend from the tablets' early days. However, this time around, Apple actually increased the price of one of its new devices, selling the iPad Mini with Retina for $399 instead of its predecessor's starting price of $329. And it dropped the original Mini's … Read more
