When Pantech released the Pantech C300 last year, we were amazed at its diminutive size. Weighing 2.5 ounces and measuring 2.72 inches by 1.69 inches by 0.76 inch, the C300 is touted by Pantech as the world's smallest camera flip phone. Then Pantech released the C3, which is the C300 with changeable faceplate covers. Now Pantech has come up with the C3b, essentially the same thing, but with Bluetooth functionality. Word is it'll go to AT&T soon, though pricing isn't available at this time.
Qantas is getting on board as is Air France. So it was only a matter of time before a U.S. airline floated the idea of using cell phones in-flight. As CNET News.com reports, Jet Blue CEO David Neeleman said texting could have a future in the skies. Neeleman also said listening to voice mail could be allowed, as long as ringtones and message alerts are silenced. On the other hand, voice calls would still be prohibited given the FCC's continued ban on using cell phones while in the air. At least you'll be able to enjoy … Read more
When it comes to Apple's iPhone it appears that the more we know, the less we know. Engadget was able to get its techy hands on a Q&A document sent to Cingular/AT&T employees. We can't confirm whether it's legit, but it almost reads like a script for an episode of TV's Lost. In other words, it tells us more of what we knew already while throwing us only the occasional bone. Meanwhile, the main details (such as an exact release date) remain wrapped in secrecy.
Still, there are a couple of … Read more
Ryan Fitzgerald is just an ordinary guy in Southbridge, Massachusetts, who had the extraordinary idea of publicizing his cell phone number on YouTube. The unemployed store clerk says he started the experiment to see how many people would call and to see if he could offer a sympathetic ear to any and all callers. He posted the above video on YouTube last Friday, and he has since received more than 5,000 calls and text messages. His follow-up YouTube video indicates that he has received all kinds of calls, from people who just wanted to say Hi, to people who … Read more

Though CTIA has come and gone, there's still some news from the show that's worth mentioning. Aside from its gallery of new cell phones, such as the Z750 and the W580, the company also announced the Z750 would be the first cell phone to support the new Java Platform 8 (JP-8). JP-8, which is based on the Mobile Services Architecture (MSA) Java umbrella standard, not only brings a new set of applications to handsets such as the Z750, it aims to standardize Java development as a whole. At CTIA I got a chance to peek at what JP-8 … Read more
AT&T Wireless is also offering a package that includes the unlimited messaging along with unlimited Media Net and Cingular Video. That bundle will run about $40 per month.
Each week, we track the hottest ringtones.
In this week's roundup of Billboard's top ringtones, a new artist has cracked the top 10. His name is T-Pain and his song "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" has nabbed the 10th spot this week. After its debut at number 16 last week, the catchy R&B tune seems to be gathering momentum.
Everyone seems to have an awesome story or two about cell phones getting destroyed at parties. I've heard tales about them getting thrown into pools, flushed down toilets, dropped into cakes, and pretty much everything else. They make great "embarrassing tales of the digital age" stories. And it's even better when they happened to your friends, not you. Like this one, about my friend Cliff and his dear departed Razr.
It was my roommate's birthday this weekend, and our former college buddy Cliff (think Bluto Blutarsky, except 6 feet 7 inches tall) had driven up … Read more
Morgan Pozgar, a 13-year-old, won LG's National Texting Championship yesterday. Her fast fingers netted her $25,000.
Pozgar bested her East Coast competitors and won $10,000 along with the title of East Coast champ.
With little time to ice her thumbs, the 13-year-old successfully texted "Supercalifragilisticexpialidoucious! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud enough you'll always sound precocious," to beat Eli Tirosh (who won the West Coast crown).
So the next time you get on your teen's case for texting, just remember that they're in … Read more
