We review the LG Decoy

Once in a long while a cell phone comes along that is completely unlike any other. We've seen fancy touch-screen phones and smartphones so clever they're practically computers, but it's rare we see anything that's truly unique. The LG Decoy steps outside conventional wisdom and presents to us one such device: the first-ever handset with a built-in Bluetooth headset. We were skeptical, of course, on whether this would truly work. But in the end, we have to admit this is a pretty ingenious idea. We hear about lost Bluetooth headsets all the time, plus it's … Read more

Bluetooth headset has a frickin' laser pointer

We're convinced that this gadget was invented by Dr. Evil fans simply for the shark references: It's a Bluetooth headset from Brando (of course) that comes with a built-in laser pointer.

It actually could come handy for PowerPoint presentations, though we'd recommend taking it off your ear before using the pointer to avoid looking like a trained seal. As for the headset, it has a range of 10 meters and talktime of 6 hours, according to Gadget Venue. And it comes with an integrated LED flashlight as well, because Brando can't resist cramming in as many … Read more

Bone-conducting headset goes wireless

Last year's Sound Leaf headset, which caught our eye during CommunicAsia 2007, is back this year and makes no bones about going Bluetooth.

Like its wired predecessor, NTT DoCoMo's Sound Leaf Plus is almost its twin in design, sans the wires. What's less visible are the tweaks, from a vibrate feature to signal an incoming call to a three-step tone control for comfortable sound levels while talking. It's also a mite lighter at 45 grams compared with its older sibling's 52. Not surprisingly, the tradeoff for wireless convenience is a dip in battery life, dropping … Read more

Driving without distraction

Beginning July 1 of this year, new laws in California and Washington will require drivers to use a hands-free device when using a cell phone. California goes a step further for drivers under 18; they will be prohibited outright from using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. Washington does not make any age distinctions, but since January 1, the Evergreen State has prohibited composing or sending text messages while driving. After the laws go into effect, Washington and California will join the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut in enacting statewide hands-free calling legislation. In … Read more

Motorola unveils 2 new Bluetooth headsets

Motorola introduced a couple of new Bluetooth headsets today; the Motorola H560 and the Motorola H620 respectively. Both headsets have noise reduction and echo cancellation technology, but the H620 has additional automatic volume adjustment to adapt to road noise while driving. The H620 also comes with an in-car charger. Both headsets have a rated talk time of 7 hours and a rated standby time of up to eight days. They'll be available in Q3 of this year.

Get a red Jawbone Bluetooth headset for $48.88

Sixth Avenue Electronics is clearing out first-generation Aliph red Jawbone headsets for the quite attractive price of $48.88 (plus an extremely reasonable $3.95 for shipping).

The last time I posted about this headset, it was $64 for a black one in OEM packaging.

Check that original post for more deets on the Jawbone. No time to click? I'll sum up: stylish design, killer noise-canceling technology, and somewhat awkward fit. It's far and away my favorite Bluetooth headset, and this is the best price I've seen. It's Wednesday only.

Who needs an FM radio headset?

Sometimes we wonder if product developers at Hong Kong-based Brando have a quota to fill on new releases. What else could possibly explain the thinking behind such creations as aromatherapy speakers, mouse label makers, and an MP3 stylus?

That's the only reason we can come up with, anyway, for its latest offering--a Bluetooth headset with a built-in FM radio, as seen on Coolest-Gadgets. Given all the choices there are on the market for wireless headsets, we seriously doubt that an integrated radio is going to tip the scales in favor of this one, especially for $53. At that price, … Read more

Bluetrek headset claims to be world's thinnest

ModeLabs is perhaps best known for designing phones branded by a diverse array of international retailers, including Christian Dior, Hummer, Tag Heuer, and Levi's. But like many phone manufacturers, it has fallen under the spell of trying to tout the smallest of something or another.

In this case, it has partnered with Bluetrek to offer the "Metal" headset, a Bluetooth gadget that is claimed to be the world's thinnest at just 0.16 inches thick, according to Gizmodo. Despite its tiny stature, the companies say the Europe-bound headset will still get five hours of talk time … Read more

LG Decoy to debut June 16

LG will purportedly launch the LG Decoy on June 16, which is just in time for the hands-free calling laws effective in July. This is because the LG Decoy comes with a stowaway Bluetooth headset that can be removed when you need it, and placed back when you don't. So far we know that it'll have a 2.0-megapixel camera, video and MP3 playback, and a microSD card slot. It will be available from Verizon for $179 with a two-year contract, $249 with a one-year contract, and $349 in full retail. We look forward to getting a review … Read more

Bluetrek Bizz: The spork of Bluetooth headsets

Remember the spork, a cross between a spoon and a fork? Always fans of shoveling stuff into ourselves more efficiently, we loved the idea, but it never really took off, did it? The Bluetrek Bizz is trying the same trick: It's a Blutooth headset with a built-in USB flash drive, although under spork naming conventions should have been called the USBlue.

We like the idea almost as much as the spork, but we're not sure if this will ever be any more successful. The Bizz is a comfortable headset that works as expected and the added USB functionality … Read more
