Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 chip is racking up benchmark numbers that make the Samsung Galaxy S II's performance seem so last-year while turning Ice Cream Sandwich into a dreamy experience, said a chip review site.
"Occasionally we'll see performance numbers that just make us laugh at their absurdity," said Anandtech. "[Snapdragon S4's] Linpack performance is no exception. The performance advantage here is insane. The MSM8960 is able to deliver more than twice the performance of any currently shipping SoC (system-on-a-chip)."
And what about that Adreno graphics processing unit? "From a compute standpoint … Read more

Comparing Apple's iPad 2 with Motorola's XyBoard and Amazon's Kindle Fire is fraught with peril. But here goes anyway.
Let me preface my review by saying that a few overzealous readers (I'm being charitable with that description) almost invariably call the writer (me) an idiot for not being as savvy and/or perceptive as they claim to be. That's par for the course. But let's get a few things straight here.
Without providing insight as to when each hanset will get the the update, the company has confimed that the HTC Rhyme, HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Rezound, and Droid Incredible 2 will get their just desserts at some point.
While we already expected the recently announced Rezound to pick up Ice Cream Sandwich we werem't so certain about the Thunderbolt. Still, I'll take what I can get.
Heading north of the border, HTC also mentions that the Raider with Rogers … Read more
Nvidia is eying a market for inexpensive dual-core smartphones that underprice the iPhone 4S by a wide margin.
That phone segment, which the graphics chipmaker calls the "1,000 RMB phone" in China, will use Nvidia's dual-core Tegra 2 processor paired with a 3G modem, according to Chief Executive Officer Jen-Hsun Huang, who spoke during the earnings conference call this afternoon. RMB refers to the Chinese currency.
RMB 1,000 is about 75 percent less than the price of an iPhone 4S, which currently retails for RMB 4,988 in China.

As to when these particular models will see their respective updates, that will vary from device to device. And, considering that most of the smartphones are listed in the "Evaluation & Planning" phase, when may prove to be the second half of the year at the earliest.
Motorola advises that smartphone … Read more

I also offer some advice to an Android customer who is patiently waiting for HTC to introduce a new smartphone with Ice Cream Sandwich.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 is the latest in the company's long line of tablets. But if the initial pricing details are true, the device is likely to be a hard sell.
Revealing what it says are the "official" prices across several countries in Europe, blogging site Sammy Hub found that the price in U.S. dollars for the Wi-Fi-only version ranged from $419 to $450, while the cost of the Wi-Fi+3G version varied from $523 to $568.
Those prices cover four Scandinavian countries, including Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark, though the new tablet will make … Read more
