CNET selects Hyperic to manage its web operations

CNET is not only one of the world's top technology news sites, but it's also a serious software shop. Over the years CNET has developed an impressive array of technologies to support its web operations. Remember Vignette? Its web content management software was originally developed at CNET (intriguingly, this is where Bill Hilf of Microsoft was "born"). This blogging tool that I'm using right now? Home grown by CNET.

This propensity to roll its own software extends to its IT operations, as well. So when I saw that CNET had selected Hyperic's HQ 3.2 platform for applications and systems management across its wide range of web operations, I figured Hyperic had to be pretty impressive. Report: Yahoo to acquire Maven Networks

Yahoo will announce that it has acquired Maven Networks, a video-hosting startup, according to a report in the blog TechCrunch.

Citing three unnamed sources, TechCrunch reported that Yahoo has paid about $150 million for the start-up and will announce the deal Thursday or Friday.

Cambridge, Mass.-based Maven Neworks helps media companies present video content on their Web sites. Among the company's customers are Fox News, CBS Sports and CNET Networks, parent company of News.com.

A Yahoo spokesperson declined to comment on "rumor and speculation." Representatives from Maven could not be reached for comment.

Loomia launches 'SeenThis' social app with NBC, WSJ, CNET

Social-news company Loomia announced Wednesday that it has launched a new application called SeenThis, which connects news sites with social-networking sites so users can learn what their people on their friends' lists have been reading. Loomia's inaugural partners in SeenThis are The Wall Street Journal, NBC Universal, and CNET Networks, parent company of CNET News.com.
