Volvo wasted no time getting to the starting line with Apple's CarPlay.
Apple early on Monday unveiled CarPlay, its new system for integrating the iPhone into people's dashboards and driving habits. With a CarPlay-enabled iPhone plugged into their rides, drivers will be able to use Siri or the car's touch screen to search maps, play music, and answer phone calls "with minimized distraction," said Apple.
Six automakers will be rolling out models with CarPlay during 2014, according to Apple's CarPlay site: Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. And while Volvo may be last … Read more
The iPhone 5S is still a hot item on the shopping list of many smartphone buyers, according to a new survey.
Among the 1,003 consumers polled last week by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, 33 percent of those who plan to buy a smartphone expect to snag an iPhone 5S. That percentage is down only slightly from the 35 percent eyeing a 5S in December 2013 and the 38 percent right after the new model debuted last September.

About two or three weeks ago, recovering addict Edgar Aguilar walked into a tiny computer lab situated in the Mid-Market area of San Francisco -- the new battleground for the friction between the tech industry's wealthiest and the city's most vulnerable residents. He had been checking out a new mobile site advertised by a flyer he spotted. It promised an easy way to connect the homeless to social services. Just out of substance abuse rehab and unemployed, Aguilar figured he'd give it a try.
He had no idea that less a month later, he'd share the … Read more

If you don't have the app already, there's no time like the present to get a copy. Current Caller ID is available for Android 2.2 and up.
The UI for the app has received a makeover, sporting lighter colors and better organization for its features. For example, the previous version of the app had two tabs … Read more
Grab your iOS and OS X devices -- this is a security update you can't afford to ignore.
According to a study by Chitika released yesterday, only 25.9% of users have updated their operating system with a bug fix that prevents third parties from intercepting and fiddling with activity on an iOS device.
More specifically, without the update, the system does not check SSL/TLS hostnames, so connections that should be encrypted are left wide open.
The same security hole is also apparent in systems running OS X Mavericks.
iOS devices (all iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices) … Read more
