Apple sued over privacy in iPhone, iPad apps

Apple is being sued for allegedly letting mobile apps on the iPhone and iPad send personal information to ad networks without the consent of users.

Jonathan Lalo, who filed the lawsuit on Thursday in U.S. District Court in San Jose, Calif., alleges that Apple's iPhones and iPads let ad networks track which applications people download, how often they're used, and for how long, according to a Bloomberg article published today.

Basic dictionary

The Internet is a great resource for people who are bilingual or who aspire to be, and one of the best things about it is the simplicity of translating unknown words. A hard copy of a foreign-language newspaper may require a reader to keep a dictionary close at hand, but the Internet can integrate the dictionary right into your browser. English Malayalam Dictionary is an add-on for Chrome that does exactly what its name describes. It's pretty bare bones, but it's not bad if you need to translate an occasional word.

Interweb, defriend make it into the dictionary

A slew of geeky slang terms have made it into the the new third edition of the Oxford Dictionary of English.

Among the new entries are Interweb, defriend, hater, and tweetup, the definitions of which you can check out for yourself by clicking on those links.

We personally think this shows great progress, (except for "tweetup;" gawd that word sets our teeth on edge) but if you're a curmudgeonly, crusty old member of the grammar police you might want to hold on a minute before grabbing your truncheons.
