Maserati's racing concept

Where other car companies build concepts with futuristic shapes that have to be towed onto the show floor, Maserati's new GranTurismo MC concept is built for speed. Maserati racing engineers have taken the GranTurismo S model and added various aerodynamic and ventilation touches to the bodywork without spoiling the fine Pininfarina styling. Maserati places air intakes on the hood and around the grille, and, at the same time, put vents behind the front wheels and at the rear of the car. The front and rear fenders are resized to accommodate a wider front track and the rear vents. Maserati … Read more

Review: 2008 Maserati GranTurismo

Driving the 2008 Maserati GranTurismo is like dating an Italian supermodel: her beauty gets you a lot of attention in public and being with her just makes you feel good. Actually, having never even met an Italian supermodel, we're going with a stereotype here, but in many ways the graceful Pininfarina-designed GranTurismo fits it. Her mouth might be a little big and toothy, but that's where we've pushed the comparison too far. The big toothy grille on the car looks great, but wouldn't work so well on a person.

As for the cabin electronics, our supermodel'… Read more

Photos: Exotic cars

The stuff of calendars and posters, exotics are cars you will rarely see in real life. Lucky indeed is the individual who gets to see a Bentley Continental GT Speed or a Spyker C8 Aileron drive by on the street. We've gone through our auto show photographs to select rare new production cars.

How to drive like a billionaire

Today and tomorrow, some lucky people are driving a set of supercars, including a Ferrari F430, a Lamborghini Gallardo, and a Porsche Turbo 997, around the Auto Club Speedway track in Fontana, Calif. To get this lucky, all you have to do is pony up $4,990 to Supercar Life, a company with a fleet of very fast cars that it uses to host track events. The company provides professional instruction to the drivers, taking the morning of the event day to show them how to drive on the track. During the afternoon, the clients take the wheel.

Photos: Maserati Quattroporte

In an age when automakers are touting the "four-door coupe" as the future of sports sedans, it's refreshing to see that there is at least one manufacturer that can combine performance and comfort without trying to invent a new segment. It may be in desperate need of a cabin tech upgrade, but the Pininfarina-designed Maserati Quattroporte is in a class of its own when it comes to exterior and interior style.

Photos: Design concepts in Geneva

One of our favorite aspects of the Geneva auto show each year is the weird and wonderful design concepts that that that the event attracts. This year's show played host to an array of novel ideas including a self-cleaning windshield, a "hybrid" convertible roof, and a new in-car communications language. Check out our photo gallery.

Photos: Maserati GranTurismo

The Maserati GranTurismo occupied a prominent position in Maserati's booth at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. Beyond its powerful looks, we were taken by the fact that it had hard drive-based navigation and a music server in the dash. Currently, it's the only Maserati to employ this technology, although a Maserati spokesperson told us this system would roll out to the Quattroporte eventually. We took many pictures as we fawned over the car's fluid lines and settled into the luxurious seats.

Photos: Frankfurt speed kings

Automakers used the 2007 Frankfurt auto show to launch a set of hot new cars and updates. These aren't all supercars, but they are all superfast. Exotics are displayed by Ferrari and Lamborghini, while Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, and Audi represent Germany. And there's a significant British contingent from Bentley and McLaren. These are the cars you dream about.

My Maserati goes (less than) 185

Find Ferraris just a little too pretentious? How about a Maserati with a Ferrari engine whose interior looks like it stepped right out of the Saville Row for cars?

The 2008 Maserati GranTurismo had its North American debut at the New York Auto Show on Thursday. While Maserati will say otherwise, this car is more about speeding in style than those into down and dirty performance.

The car takes 5.1 seconds to go 0 to 60 and has a maximum speed of 177 mph (notably not 185). The car has a 405-horsepower 4.2-liter V8 engine mounted in a … Read more
