A Bluetooth headset for playing CHP

If you're planning to be a motorcycle cop for Halloween, this is the perfect accessory to complete the ensemble.

Parrot's SK 4000 Bluetooth headset will make you look like you just pulled out of a presidential motorcade, with a purported 10 hours of standy battery time and an FM stereo when the parties get boring, according to Engadget. Once back in the saddle, you can use the handlebar-mounted remote to call discreetly for reinforcements at the nearest bar.

New gaming gear: Razer's Lycosa keyboard and Piranha headset

Razer just announced two new gaming products at the World Cyber Games 2007 grand final in Seattle. The gaming peripheral maker revealed the Lycosa, a new gaming keyboard, and the Piranha, a new gaming headset. Once again, Razer keeps its themes of naming its mice after snakes, its keyboards after spiders, and its audio equipment after fish.

The Lycosa keyboard takes characteristics from both the Razer Tarantula and the Microsoft Reclusa (built with Razer technology) and combines them. Like the Tarantula, the Lycosa features Razer's claimed Ultrapolling 1ms response time and like the Reclusa, the Lycosa's keys light … Read more

Headset worships the sun even after summer

Iqua is an interesting company, and not just because of its unusual name. The Finnish company always seems to come up with noteworthy products, whether it's a wireless "miniUFO" car speakerphone or an L-shaped Bluetooth phone that attaches to the back of the headrest.

Its latest invention has gone green, a wireless headset powered by solar energy. The Iqua "Sun," developed with partner Suntrica, is based on the previous "Vogue" model (pictured here) that was a hit on the French market with conventional batteries, according to OhGizmo. It beats having to wear a … Read more

V-Moda earphones meld phone, music

V-Moda has always been able to combine quality with high fashion, not an easy feat considering the limited canvas afforded by something as small as an earbud. And now it's managed to cram a key new function into its headsets as well.

The latest version of its "Vibe Duo" model is designed for the iPhone with a built-in set of controls that include functions for calls as well as music--yet another reflection of the ever-converging worlds of mobile handsets and media players. Apple includes its own headphones with the iPhone but worked with V-Moda to develop its … Read more

Off with your head(set)!

I think I just found the funniest person ever. While perusing a recent San Francisco Chronicle I came across a regular featured called Two Cents where the newspaper asks a group of five readers a common question. Last Sunday the question was: "What personal behavior law has government not thought of--but should?"

Now if that's not a intriguing poser, I don't know what is. While most of the answers were relatively dull, two of them caught my eye. The first suggested banning excessively loud motorcycles (I don't like being woken up at 5 in the … Read more

Sennheiser's first Bluetooth headset

Looks like Sennheiser Communications is pretty late to the game. The VMX 100 is the company's first Bluetooth headset that features VoiceMax dual microphone technology, which is able to distinguish human voice from background noise. And we thought we'd moved on to bone conduction already?

Anyway, the VMX 100 allows the wearer to chat non-stop for up to 5 hours or 100 hours if you leave it on standby. But what sets it apart from its army of competitors out there is its 3D ball joint that allows the user to adjust the microphone boom to their fancy.… Read more

Plantronics announces the Voyager 855

Plantronics has just announced its latest Bluetooth headset, the Voyager 855. Similar to the Jabra BT8010 from this year's CES, the Voyager 855 is a mono-to-stereo convertible Bluetooth headset that can "transform" from one to the other with a detachable stereo cable. Like other Plantronics headsets, it will also feature its AudioIQ DSP noise reduction technology, and since this is a stereo headset, the Voyager 855 supports A2DP and AVRCP formats for music, as well. As far as design goes, the headset also features a slide-to-talk boom mic for better audio performance. The Voyager 855 will be … Read more

Latest Jabra headset does double duty

Optimus Prime it's not, but the latest Jabra headset does something of a Transformer act of its own. The BT8030 model at first looks like a conventional set of headphones until it changes into a pair of laptop speakers or even a conference phone when connected via Bluetooth.

And if a call comes in while music is playing, the headset will automatically pause the MP3 file so you can answer it, according to Fareastgizmos. The multi-tasking gadget is kind of the big brother of the BT8010 earphone combo we saw earlier this year.

There's been no word yet, … Read more

A plea to Swarovski

Swarovski, please stop taking over the gadget world.

This time, the crystal maker is pairing with Plantronics to introduce a limited-edition Bluetooth headset--unlike Philips, which decided to opt out of the Bluetooth trend when it came to Swarovski-adorned gadgets.

The white jeweled headset will retail for $59.95 in October, while the unjeweled version (which also comes in black, gray and pink) will be $49.95. This headset, the newest edition to the MIX line, will be called MIX Explorer 330. The white headset clearly appeals to the fashion-conscious more than its black counterpart, but it isn't something I'… Read more

Photos: iPhone accessories galore

The iPhone hasn't even launched yet and there are already dozens--if not hundreds--of iPhone accessories ready to be purchased. Sure, most of them are universal dock iPod accessories that happen to be iPhone-compatible, but there are also quite a few that were made with the iPhone in mind. From Apple's own Bluetooth headset and iPhone dock to a plethora of cases and headphone adapters, it looks like new iPhone owners will be spoiled for choice when it comes to the right accessory for their brand-new cell phone. Here are just a few that have caught our eyes recently. … Read more
