Verizon Wireless G'zOne Type-S spotted on FCC

PhoneScoop spotted the Casio G'zOne Type-S phone on the FCC site yesterday, and it looks to be the smaller version of the G'zOne Type-V phone we reviewed last year. The Type-S seems to be just as durable and rugged as its predecessor, although the specs on it are slightly different: it sports a VGA camera instead of the 2-megapixel one on the Type-V, and features Bluetooth, which the Type-V didn't. The Type-S also did away with the stubby antenna on the Type-V, opting instead for a loop antenna similar to those found on a lot of Sony … Read more

ESPN Mobile resurrected for V Cast subscribers

Those with long memories in the mobile space might remember a little MVNO called Mobile ESPN that debuted some time in early 2006. The sports-based carrier catered especially to sports fanatics who wanted a cell phone that delivered real-time sports scores, sports videos, news stories, stats of favorite teams, and more, via an innovative ESPN-themed user interface. However, Mobile ESPN had to pull the plug only after a few short months, presumably due to lack of consumer interest.

Well, sports fans can now rejoice, because ESPN has partnered with Verizon to resurrect the Mobile ESPN experience via an ESPN MVP … Read more

A Razr 2?

We all know Motorola is launching a "media monster" cell phone tomorrow, but we don't know exactly what the handset will look like. Will it be something completely new or will it be a repeat of a current Moto design? Certainly, we're hoping for a break from the now old-hat Razr line, but it wouldn't surprise us if the company continued in the same direction.

In the midst of our musings PhoneNews.com posted pictures today of the new Motorola Razr V9m. Referred to as both the Razr 2 and Moto Lazr (enough with the … Read more

Verizon to nab Samsung SCH-U410

With four new cell phones in the last three months, Samsung and Verizon Wireless clearly have become quite chummy lately. We've seen the QWERTY keyboard SCH-U740, the V Cast Mobile TV-capable SCH-U620, the 3G SCH-U540, and the low-end SCH-U340. And now it appears the two companies will round out their portfolios even more, with the new Samsung SCH-U410.

Sporting a rather generic flip phone design, the SCH-U410 doesn't offer an eye-popping feature set but it's not exactly a lightweight either. According to Mobiledia you'll find a VGA camera, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, voice dialing, and support for … Read more

A cable modem hits hyper speed

Cable industry executives on Wednesday showed off a superfast cable-modem technology called "channel bonding," and wowed the crowd at The Cable Show convention in Las Vegas.

According to an Associated Press report on the demonstration, the CEO of communications technology specialist ARRIS Group, Robert Stanzione, downloaded a 30-second, 300-megabyte television commercial in a few seconds and watched it well before a standard modem worked through a download time of about 16 minutes.

Known as DOCSIS 3.0 among the engineers at Cable Television Laboratories, the cable industry's research arm, the technology can offer download speeds as quick … Read more

Photos: LG rules the roost for V Cast Mobile TV

Crave got up close and personal with Verizon's latest cell phone for its new V Cast Mobile TV service. The LG VX9400 sports a unique form factor with a brilliant display that swivels up for comfortable viewing. Inside you'll find a host of features that are backed up by decent performance. Video sound quality could be a bit iffy at times, and the rotating display isn't conducive for making calls, but we like it better than the previous Samsung SCH-U620. For more, check out our VX9400 review and our slide show.

Hands on with the Samsung SCH-U540

The Samsung SCH-U540 adds another EV-DO phone to Verizon's lineup. Inside the slim design is support for the carrier's V Cast streaming video service, a music player, Bluetooth, and a speakerphone. On the other hand, performance was a bit up and down as we've detailed in our full review. Also, see the slide show for a full gallery of SCH-U540 photos.

Verizon, Sprint announce RIM BlackBerry 8830 World Edition

Today, Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion officially announced the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition, a dualmode CDMA/GSM smart phone designed for those who frequently travel overseas for business or pleasure. Aside from the dualmode functionality, the 8830 … Read more

Appeals court: Vonage can sign up new customers, for now

A federal appeals court on Tuesday granted Vonage a second reprieve in its attempts to continue to sign up customers while a patent lawsuit brought by Verizon is underway.

Just hours after hearing oral argument in the case, a three-judge panel at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit blocked a lower court's injunction that would have barred the Internet phone company from adding new customers. The appeals court had temporarily placed that injunction on hold on April 6, and Tuesday's order makes it permanent for the duration of the appeal process.

The court clerk'… Read more
