Relive 10th grade with locker HDTV

As many a deafened parent of pre-teen kids will tell you, Disney's High School Musical is a force to be reckoned with. It has gone well beyond its TV-movie origins to become an international phenemenon, with live shows, DVDs, CDs and maddeningly repetitive pop tunes that are driving innumerable moms and dads to the brink of insanity.

All of which makes it a perfect storm, of course, for a major merchandizing blitz. Never one to shy away from a marketing challenge, Amazon is offering a "High School Musical Wii Bundle With Microphone" next month. But Gizmodo notes … Read more

Because RVs need TV more than anybody

It's often not hard to spot the RVs and campers that have satellite hookups--they either look like a TV news van or some jerry-rigged version of the truck used in Sanford and Son.

Luckily, the people at KVH are always thinking, and they've come up with a system designed specifically for the mobile-home set. The new "SlimLine" models will beam HD DirecTV signals to your road monster, touted as the "smallest and simplest" of their kind and available either preinstalled or after-market, according to Engadget.

It's not entirely clear to us what features … Read more

Gamespot: Japanese PSP to get TV tuner

Gamespot is reporting that when the new, slimmer PSP is released in Japan on September 20, buyers there will also be able to pick up a new TV tuner accessory, the PSP-S310, which will attach to the new PSP's USB port.

The article says that, "The peripheral weighs in at only 17 grams and is very portable, but is compatible only with the new PSP model. Also, since it's a 1seg digital TV tuner (ISDB-T broadcasting format), its use is limited to the Japan airwaves. The TV tuner will be released at the same time as the … Read more

HDTV spa for the consummate host

Well, that was close. We could have spent $8,000 or so for a "Luxor Hydro Massage Bathtub," mostly because of a single feature: the built-in TV. But how selfish of us--what about our guests?

BornRich has solved our entertaining conundrum with the "Infinity Vista TV Spa," which seats six who can enjoy "57 jets, an auto-rising 19-inch Polaroid HDTV, JVC DVD/AM/FM/CD player, four-speaker stereo system, a 10-inch subwoofer with amplifier and LED lighting." Who knew that Costco would become a purveyor of luxury home items? We just hope that they … Read more

TV tuner or stalactite?

Is it stalactite or stalagmite? We never could get that straight, which is just one reason we're doing this for a living instead of making millions at an oil company. It doesn't really matter anyway, where this new TV tuner is concerned, because it can pretty much be attached to any surface--on the floor or even the ceiling, if you'd like.

The cone-shaped USB Buffalo tuner has a built-in booster and noise filter for clearer TV reception on the computer, as well as the ability to search for program information. But what makes it special in our … Read more

Current terms for Current.TV are new and improved

Before YouTube became ubiquitious, and long before they were snatched up by Google, Vice President Al Gore launched his own experiment to democratize television: Current TV. Initially introduced to the public with a series of gatherings at bars and colleges as INdTV, the moniker Current TV was announced with great fan-fare in April of 2005 prior to the station's premiere that August. Although initial reviews of the station were luke-warm at best, it was their initial submission terms that led many of us video creators to stick to other distribution avenues. The good news is that Current TV now … Read more

Two new lawsuits for Apple: a photograph and an Avril Lavigne song

Apple may soon be facing some courtroom issues related to a snapshot by an accomplished photographer and a sugary song by pop singer Avril Lavigne, according to two recent sets of court documents that were reported by AppleInsider.

Both cases have yet to go to court.

The first suit, filed on May 25 in a San Francisco court, names Apple only peripherally. James Gangwer and Tommy Dunbar, the members of a 1970s band called the Rubinoos, allege that Canadian singer Lavigne's recent single "Girlfriend" borrowed a bit too liberally from their 1979 song "I Wanna Be … Read more
