Now that Logitech's excellent Z-5500 Digital 5.1 speaker system has been around for a few years, it's available for considerably less than its original $400 asking price. But desktop owners looking for another option now have an even more affordable alternative in the form of the company's just-announced G51 surround-sound system. The all-analog 5.1 speaker system features stereo and 6-channel inputs, the latter matching the outputs found on nearly all surround-capable PC sound cards. The G51 features two matrixing modes--one for games and one for music--that can synthesize a 5.1 surround track from a … Read more
When we reviewed the Logitech Alto earlier this year, we loved its design, which combined a notebook riser, keyboard, and three high-speed USB ports into a single workstation that could fold up when not in use. But we didn't like how the all-in-one design kept the keyboard at a fixed distance from the display--not ideal from an ergonomic standpoint. Clearly, the company took our feedback seriously, because today they've announced the Alto Cordless Notebook Stand. As the name implies, this new version of the product features a detachable keyboard that lets you vary the distance from the keyboard … Read more
Logitech has unveiled two new iPod systems today under the Pure-Fi product line.
First is the Pure-Fi Dream Premium Bedroom Music System for iPod which retails for $250. This iPod speakerdock is supposedly designed specifically for the bedroom and includes a number of unique features that we haven't seen in a device like this before. The unit has one-button access to up to six iPod playlists along with convenient shuffle and repeat buttons. In addition, the unit is motion sensitive--perfect for navigating in the dark--with just a wave of your hand, all of the lights come on. You can … Read more
We don't mind a little weirdness in the pursuit of better ergonomics, but we really dislike funky mice and keyboards that require you to relearn how to type and/or mouse. That's why we're particularly excited about Logitech's Cordless Desktop Wave desktop set, which the company announced this morning.
For $89 when it hits stores this August, the Cordless Desktop Wave will give you two major ergonomic features. The first is that, as the name suggests, the keys are arranged along a wave-like pattern that ripples across the keyboard. This design is supposed to account for … Read more
If Logitech is stocking its vending machines with free cans of Red Bull, we wouldn't be surprised. Especially in the hallways of its mouse division.
Only days after debuting its "MX Air Mouse," the company is reportedly preparing to release a successor to its highly regarded "VX Revolution" laser mouse. The "VX Nano" is wireless and meant for laptops, like its predecessor, but there's a noticeable difference: The new version's USB dongle is tiny--so small, Pocket-lint says, that it doesn't even need to be removed from its port when the … Read more
Although it was originally developed a few years ago by SlimDevices, the Logitech Transporter has seen its way through a number of enhancements. Realizing its worth to the consumer, Logitech acquired SlimDevices just to sell the Transporter along with the company's SqueezeNetwork. In doing so, Logitech has added some of its own flair, but has basically kept the Transporter securely fastened in its original design. That said, the unit I used is not the silver you see pictured here, but the new fully-black design.
Regardless of its history or color differences, the Logitech Transporter is a well-built device with … Read more

Logitech took the covers off its MX Air Mouse this morning. We've seen this thing twice now during preview visits, and we've been impressed both times. If you're familiar with the Nintendo Wii controller or Gyration's mice, you'll get the idea behind the new Logitech mouse, although the underlying technology isn't quite the same. With the Gyration mouse, you need to point the device directly at your computer. Logitech's MX Air Mouse simply interprets how you move the mouse, regardless of where you point it. You can aim it at the ground and … Read more
The gang at accessories powerhouse Logitech have been hard at work devising a slate of new products for your laptop. The most interesting of these--all being officially announced today--are a couple of laptop cases and laptop stands.
If the ubiquity of a laptop stand has eluded you, you clearly have not spent enough time trying to work on a laptop in a standard office environment, staring at a screen below eye level and trying to work a flat keyboard all day long.
Logitech's new Alto Express ($29.99) is a simple curved piece of plastic, but it raises your … Read more
When I first saw the title of the Logitech Transporter, I immediately thought, wished, hoped it would be a device that let me travel through time. No.
The Logitech Transporter allows you to easily and seamlessly transmit audio from a PC, portable music player or the internet over a wireless network to speakers you connect to it. Even better, it works seamlessly with Pandora -- my favorite web audio source.
The Transporter is capable of transmitting just about any kind of audio, but it's tough to say just how well it works given the spotty performance of similar products.… Read more
