Acer Iconia Tab A501 coming to AT&T

ORLANDO, Fla.--Along with a couple of smartphones, AT&T is adding a new tablet to its portfolio.

The carrier announced today here at CTIA 2011 that it will bring the Acer Iconia Tab A501 with 4G support later this summer. The Iconia Tab is an Android Honeycomb tablet with an Nvidia dual-core processor, a 10-inch WXGA multitouch screen, and 1080p HD video output via its HDMI port.

The tablet also has a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a front-facing camera for video calls. Additional details were rather scarce, and pricing was not released at this time. We … Read more

Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, 'world's thinnest' tablets

ORLANDO, Fla.--As expected, Samsung took the wraps off of a new tablet today at CTIA 2011, and there's not just one brand-spanking new device but actually two: the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Not to be confused with the other Galaxy Tab 10.1, which was introduced at Mobile World Congress, this version, along with the Tab 8.9, claim to be the "world's thinnest tablets" at just 8.6 millimeters thin. By comparison, the iPad 2 is just a hair thicker at 8.8 millimeters.

Angry Birds Rio is 99 cents on the iPhone, $2.99 on the iPad, and is free today as part Amazon's Appstore for Android launch (Amazon scored the Angry Birds Android launch exclusive). T-Mobile Sidekick 4G gets priced, hands-on treatment

ORLANDO, Fla.--Slowly but surely, we're getting a more complete picture of the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G. Last week T-Mobile revealed the smartphone's feature list, and now the carrier has spilled the beans on pricing.

The new Sidekick will cost $99.99 with a two-year contract with unlimited data and after a $50 mail-in rebate. Alternatively, you can purchase the messaging handheld for $149.99 with a two-year service agreement and lower data plan, such as its 200MB data plan.

ORLANDO, Fla.--Well, T-Mobile certainly isn't holding back. Along with news of the T-Mobile G2X, pricing for the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, and the Nokia Astound, the carrier finally revealed pricing for the T-Mobile G-Slate by LG. The Honeycomb tablet will cost $529.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate.

LG has just announced the T-Mobile G2X, which is the much-awaited U.S. version of the LG Optimus 2X. It appears that T-Mobile and LG are going after a G prefix naming convention with their higher-end devices, the first being the T-Mobile G-Slate tablet.

Hands on Opera Mobile 11, Opera Mini 6

Opera announced last week that it would launch two new mobile browsers at CTIA--Opera Mobile 11 and Opera Mini 6--but when it came to new and enhanced features, it mostly kept quiet.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on a preview build before the show, and can share a lot more about what's in store for Opera on mobile phones and tablets.

Hands on with Firefox 4 for Android (RC)

Firefox for Mobile (download) is just one step away from its first Android release, as Mozilla announced the browser's release candidate today. 

Pending final testing, the mobile version of the popular Firefox browser will soon be available in full force on Android smartphones (the release candidate will be available beginning today in the Android Market). Firefox 4 will also work on the Maemo platform (download).

I sat down with Mozilla to take a look at the upcoming changes and enhancements. I've always liked Mozilla's mobile design, which hides the nuts and bolts like settings and tabs in the "gutters" on either side of the browsing screen and can be reached by swiping right or left. The layout does expand the screen's real estate, but it also makes some features harder to access.

A new default start screen puts some of those features back into focus with quick links to previously viewed Web pages, suggested Firefox add-ons, and most-recent tabs you've opened on other computers, the latter courtesy of Firefox Sync.… Read more
