ITC to review Apple victory in Motorola patent case

The U.S. International Trade Commission will review an administrative law judge's decision invalidating certain Motorola Mobility patents, which cleared Apple of infringement claims.

The ITC, a federal agency with the power to enforce bans on products shipping to the U.S., posted a notice (PDF) to its Web site today indicating it will take a second look at a decision issued in December by Administrative Law Judge Thomas Pender. Pender dismissed the claims after invalidating a Motorola patent covering proximity sensor technology.

So here's something I didn't know: When Motorola released the inevitable successor to its popular Xoom tablet, it was called the Xoom 2 -- in Europe. Here in the U.S., Motorola decided to call it the Droid Xyboard.

Apple demands Google hand over data for Motorola case

Apple is asking a U.S. District Court judge to force Google to comply with a subpoena on data the iPhone maker says will aid its case against Motorola.

Apple earlier this week filed a "motion to compel compliance with a subpoena" in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division. Patently Apple was first to discover the filing and reported on it today.

Google was slapped with a subpoena in August, requiring the company to hand over pertinent information for the discovery phase of a case that Apple is building against Motorola. … Read more

Verizon pops color into Lumia, Droid Razr lineup

Starting tomorrow, Nokia will whip out a new color palette for two of its phones. In addition to white and dark gray, the Nokia Lumia 822 Windows phone will now come in red.

For its part, Motorola goes soft on the Droid Razr M, which you'll be able to pick up in pink, as well as the more traditional white and black.

Earlier this morning, Verizon also announced that it will carry Samsung's Ativ Odyssey Windows phone, beginning tomorrow for about $50.

You'll be able to buy the new shades both online and in stores.

Motorola's $353M Q4 loss weighs on Google results

Google's Motorola unit continues to struggle, posting a loss of $353 million in the fourth quarter and besmirching the Internet giant's other profitable results.

Excluding one-time items, the unit posted a loss of $152 million.

A year ago, when Motorola was still an independent company, it posted a net loss of $80 million and an adjusted profit of $61 million.

Its revenue, meanwhile, came in at $1.51 billion down from $3.4 billion a year ago.

More Google Motorola 'X Phone' details emerge

Google will announce the rumored Motorola X Phone at its annual Google I/O conference in May, according to the latest round of rumors.

A 600-page forum thread picked up by Droid Life spills a number of new details for the forthcoming Google and Motorola initiative.

Although the X Phone, as it's known now, may make its formal debut in mid-May at the developer conference, the handset isn't expected to arrive until July 8.
