Jamo is a Wii-style dance game that uses your iPhone as the controller.
Of course, as everyone famously knows, it's all too easy for a handheld controller to get a little, er, out of hand.
That's why developer Vimo Labs has put together this special offer, exclusively for CNET readers: You can get a free iPhone 5 wrist-strap case when you try Jamo. Normally it would run you $10 plus shipping, but here you're getting it delivered to your door without spending a penny.
The case offers plastic protection for your phone and the added benefit of … Read more
Actor Jonathan Kite is a far cry from Oleg, the bawdy Ukrainian cook he plays on CBS sitcom "2 Broke Girls." He's US-born, more travel-crazed than sex-crazed, and doesn't deliver bawdy one-liners in his daily life. Kite also lends his voice to animated series "Black Dynamite" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and after making stand-up comedy a weekend hobby, has become sought after for his impressions of Vince Vaughn, Tom Hanks, Seth Rogen, Liam Neeson, and Robert Downey Jr.
How do you account for the success of "2 Broke Girls"? I … Read more
Last year, I shared how to use the Whitepages Current Caller ID app to easily track blocked calls and texts. Now, Whitepages has added the ability to spot many of today's spam/scam numbers, along with some other convenient features.
If you don't have the app already, there's no time like the present to get a copy. Current Caller ID is available for Android 2.2 and up.
The UI for the app has received a makeover, sporting lighter colors and better organization for its features. For example, the previous version of the app had two tabs … Read more
When it comes to Girl Scout Cookie season, I always begin to sweat, wondering how I am going to track down a box of those delicious Peanut Butter Patties. It never crossed my mind to try searching the App Store or the Girl Scouts Web site to find the nearest cookie sales until I found this post on Brokelyn.com.
As it turns out, the Girls Scout Web site does offer a method for searching the cookie sales schedule in your zip code. There are even links to an iOS and Android app to help you fill your cabinets, but … Read more
Texting or chatting on the phone while driving is illegal in California, but the law seems still to be catching up with technology when it comes to other aspects of smartphone use behind the wheel.
A court of appeals has reversed an earlier court decision that ruled map reading on a cell phone was taboo under the law, according to the Associated Press. The 5th District Court of Appeal said the law currently applies only to talking and texting on mobile devices and doesn't yet have legal language for app use.
The case came about in January 2012 after … Read more
SAN FRANCISCO -- Android owners who use apps installed from outside of the Play Store will soon find their devices just a smidge safer, as Google announced at the RSA Conference here that Verify Apps will soon keep an eye on non-Play Store apps even after you install them.
Adrian Ludwig, Google's Android security engineer lead, said the change builds on the Verify Apps security feature introduced last year. He explained the change during a talk on how Google has created a secure open-source operating system.
When the Verify Apps option is checked, Google will scan apps installed outside … Read more
The Genius Bar is typically the best place to visit when having issues with an Apple device, but don't forget to make an appointment first. Each time I make a visit to the store, I stand and watch as customer after customer comes in, thinking Apple takes walk-in Genius Bar appointments quickly. More often then not, the customer has to book an appointment and come back at a later time.
Save yourself some time the next time you need some troubleshooting advice, and book the appointment directly from your iOS device while you're out and about.
In order … Read more
You know how you like to love yourself? Oh, go on. Count the ways.
The problem is, though, that when you want a little space to be nice to yourself in a big city, you're left with either the library or Starbucks.
Yes, you could book into a gorgeous hotel, but that costs ugly money.
On the other hand, there's an app called Breather. Think of it as a little space for (what's left of) your soul.
Breather exists to find you a small oasis of peace and quiet when you have an hour to kill -- … Read more
Apple and Google will be among the organizations to talk to the EU this week about the impact "freemium" apps are having on the industry.
In a statement on Thursday, the EU's European Commission said that it wants to investigate in-app purchases on games that can be downloaded for free. The Commission argues that while games can be downloaded for free, they essentially compel customers to pay for add-ons that bring functionality to the title, and that belies the idea of truly playing a game for "free."
So-called "freemium" games and apps have … Read more
