Dodge debuts 2011 Challenger SRT8 392 with limited Inaugural Edition

At the end of our week with the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8, we had a short list of cabin-tech quibbles that could stand improvement (starting with putting a voice-control button on the steering wheel), but we didn't want to get greedy and ask for "more power." Fortunately, Dodge's engineers can think for themselves and will be unveiling a new, more powerful variant of the SRT8 at the 2010 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392.

The 392 designation at the end of the model name refers to the engine's displacement, its … Read more

Hang a classic car on the wall of your man cave

There's a Nudie-built Elvis car hanging on a 50-foot wall behind the bar of Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, Calif. Legend has it Owens won the car in a poker game against the King, but now that both men are deceased, we may never know.

While 3D Classic Car Shelves from Gadgets and Gear aren't the stuff legends are made of, one of these babies won't need a 50-foot wall either.

Replicas of the front end of classic automobiles, the shelves come in shapes ranging from muscle cars such as the 2010 Chevy Camaro and … Read more

The meter is on

Whacksy Taxi is a fast-paced, ad-supported racing game with old-school graphics and controls--and a surprising amount of quality content for a free game.

Whacksy Taxi looks superficially like an Out-Run-style racer, but your lateral movement is much more like Frogger: you're always driving forward, on an endlessly straight road, but you use left and right buttons to switch back and forth between three vertical lanes, dodging a maze of traffic that becomes more dense with every level. You also have buttons to jump cars (one or two at a time) and to brake (to give yourself some breathing room). … Read more

Chrysler released a dark and intimidating image of its police vehicle that goes on sale in September.

The Pursuit's suspension is tuned for performance and saddled with heavy-duty antilock vented-disc brakes (ABS), front and rear stabilizer bars, and 18-inch performance tires on steel wheels. Viper bites the dust

Clad in custom bronzed gold paint, the final current-generation Dodge Viper rolled off the assembly line in Detroit on Thursday, July 1.

The last one was tailored to the tastes of a loyal Viper owner, D'Ann Rauh, who with her husband, Wayne, owns more than 40 Vipers. The Texas couple is recognized as owning the world's largest collection of Vipers.

The Viper was launched in 1992 and was a pet project of Chrysler executive Bob Lutz.

More than 400 Viper owners and Dodge CEO Ralph Gilles were present at the Conner Avenue assembly plant, in Detroit, dubbed the &… Read more

What's more American than a muscle car? (concept car Friday)

More than trucks, more than minivans and SUVs, I believe that there's no better vehicular representation of America than the muscle car. However, with muscle cars come deep seeded loyalties to and rivalries among the three manufacturers and their respective vehicles. Specifically, we're talking about Ford's Mustang, Dodge's Challenger, and Chevrolet's Camaro. In a recent episode of Car Tech Live, we three hosts were asked which modern muscle car we'd each have and came up with three very different answers. Rather than spend our Independence Day weekend arguing over which is best, we've … Read more

Is Google far too much in love with engineering?

It's nice if a pilot has a background in flying. It's really quite special if a colonoscopist has a background in medicine. But does everyone who heads up a department at Google really need to have a background in engineering?

I should be lying in the sun rather than pondering this existential mind-twister, but I was moved past reluctance by a blog post written by Don Dodge, developer advocate at Google.

Dodge, who used to perform advocacy at Microsoft, wrote this post to celebrate surviving--I'm sorry, I mean enjoying--six months at Google.

In a section titled "… Read more

New EyeDriver technology the future of driving?

Researchers at Berlin's Free University today announced they have developed new technology that lets drivers steer cars using only their eyes.

Raul Rojas, an artificial intelligence researcher at the Institute of Computer Science, and his team from the Artificial Intelligence Group demonstrated how they can steer a specially equipped vehicle with one eye.

A demonstration took place at the former Berlin Tempelhof Airport using a Dodge Caravan called Spirit of Berlin.

Using EyeDriver, the driver wears a converted bicycle helmet that is equipped with two cameras and an infrared LED. One of the cameras points in the same direction … Read more
